Hi Everyone!

I'm a newby who's BJ7 MKIIA is getting close to paint. I've seen many many pictures of the big Healeys and have recently found myself attracted to the bumperless look. I find it really show's off the lines of the car even more. With that said my dilema is Old english White with dark Blue coves similar to that of the 100S with driving lights or the more classic look of the Healey Blue with white coves with Bumpers? As a note I found that the bumperless look is far more popular in Europe than America. I look forward to hearing everyone's responses.

Re: New to list

Welcome to the list - You should find it great for answers to all your questions.
You may want to look at a couple of gallerys
first I would suggest
1 - www.healey.org
and then 2 - www.healeysix.net
and if you are looking for that S color treatment check out the current ebay # 4591689204 - a true 'S' for sale.
Good Luck

Re: New to list

Thanks Jim

I've been to those links before. For such an elite color combination as with the 100S it seems not to many have tried on the BJ models? Any idea why!

Re: New to list

Robb,

The 100S look is virtually only ever seen on other 100s, amd even then - not very often. Its something that belongs to the 100S.

Another reason is that the majority of cars are still repainted in original factory colours and the 100S colours were never available on BJ8s or any other model either. There was a thread on this just recently as to whether non original colours can diminish the value of the cars.

I dont think the 100S colours would look right on a BJ8 - IMHO

Re: New to list

Some pictures of a Healey painted 100S colors. I think its a MkII.

A 3/4 Front view, a full on side view, and a 3/4 rear view. They're all of the same car, Isle of Skye, Scotland in May 2003. Since you're thinking of this color combination without the bumpers this should give a pretty good idea of what it might look like, though it has alloy wheels too. I think it looks good... and it runs quite well, too....

And one for the other side, in 2005:

I hope these help.

Good luck with it....

That third photo has a Ying and Yang thing going on! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Re: New to list

James

Your car is the one that got me thinking of the color combination. I think it looks striking. Now if I had photoshop where I could add wire wheels......

Re: New to list

I wish it were mine- its a friend's. Mine is shown below and I've a little work to do yet.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

It was that color combination when he got it and was raced or rallied in the 1960s. The front shroud has been trimed a bit at the bottom, as you may have noticed and the wings are fiberglass with a little flaring, and it has a louvered bonnet. Its not very stock mechanically either... but loads of fun to drive....

Re: New to list

money pit, welcome!i agree the collor combo is very pleasing,i also agree that the removal of the extraneuos bumbers allow the beautiful lines of the car to reveal them self more fully, after all, the bumpers were designed around the car not the other way round, its a shame that so many drivers have learned to park thier cars by the 'feel and sound'method,or id remove my own!welcome again, good luck with the project.anthony7777 1963 bj7 M.K.II /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Re: New to list

I can't recall seeing a bumperless BJ model in the Healey Blue and OEW combo. Not sure if that would look right?

Re: New to list

The BJ8 does have a different look to it, I feel the roadsters suit the bumperless more than the BJ8 which is more of a GT touring car than a sportscar (dons flameproof clothing!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif) A BJ8 with a hardtop would suit the bumperless look.

Re: New to list

The bumpers are simply part of the design. Healeys used in competition, as well as noncompetition cars with owners who want their cars to look like competition cars, are without bumpers.

Re: New to list

nevets,i feel the bumpers are an evil necessity,an esthetic distraction and totaly secondary to the cheeta like flow of the cars lines,i liken them to a set of dental braces on the mona lisa! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif

Re: New to list

I think the car in James' photos looks superb! That's just the way I would want it if I could afford one....
Perhaps a compromise on the bumper issue would be to mount overiders only (for a little protection without spoiling the sweeping lines?)
Simon, (thinking about doing this on my TR4a).

Re: New to list

maybe the Mona Lisa has dental braces, which would explain why she's smiling without showing her teeth?

Re: New to list

Overiders?

Bugeye bumperettes, mounted upside down, I believe:

Front, from the SC Parts catalog, unfortunately I don't know of any locally that have opted for this:

Rear view, A BRG with Beige (Healey Grey) from the another drive around the Highlands, 2003:

And something similar, this time from the Nasty-Boys Modified Healeys site, with bumpers and wire wheels: Healey Blue over Dark Blue

The Big Healeys site also has drawings that show each exterior/interior color combinations available stock for the Healey models too. For non-stock combinations you'll have to troll through the owner's galleries and hope you get lucky....

I'll have to make my own mind up soon, too, and I'm finding it hard....

Re: New to list

Put me down for I don't like the bumperets and the roll bar??? Well lets just say thats almost as bad as a Dautsun engine.

she had no teath!

What makes the Mona Lisa's appearance so unusual is not the winsome smile--It is that she has no eyebrows. Check it out....

Re: New to list

Ive made a very amateur attempt at photoshopping and if our moderator Reid would be so kind to attach photo's for me I would be forever grateful. Me thinks I need a mouse with a roller from Santa! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF
