I am new to discussion forums and am trying to drive my midget more these days. It sat idle for about 10 years while my wife and I raised twin girls. Now after an engine rebuild, etc I would like the drive the thing. It was running well before I replaced the body/axle straps. Way back there in my brain I now remember a supermechanic telling me not to jack on the axles. too late, I hear the clunking that sounds like a bad U-joint.

Does anyone know if jacking on the axle could cause problems other than on the U-joint?

My screename is from the neighbor kids, the only rapping I do is my knuckles while working on the house or car.

Welcome to th' fracas!

As for the jacking point(s), it'd be best to (with a piece of wood between jack and car) get under either the spring shackles or the pumpkin. Jack stands under the tubes as near the drums as possible. Watch for brakelines, handbrake linkage.

U-J's aren't that big a job but getting the beast high enough to remove the shaft can be a challenge. Take your time, use good sense, proper jack stands, NO concrete blocks.
