New Steering Wheel and question

Dropped by a friends this week and picked up a wood rim wheel. Brand name is "Personal" and it was on a Volvo. It also came with an adapter for an MG. Last night I pulled the wheel - no small task since the DCO crushed the threads some :wall:

Anyway, adapter is too large so it looks like I'll be getting the wheel drilled instead. But, my question is this - Is there a larger steering column shaft than my '76 - or could it be off a B?

While it (the adapter) is not yet mine to sell, it will likely be for sale as the guy it came from bought it because he thought it would fit my car

I see to remember there was a change in the steering column splines somewhere between 1969 and 1971. (Sorry, I don't remember exactly when the change happened). Regardless, If you have a hub from a 1970s car I don't think it will be close to fitting on a 1960s steering column.

I think they changed at least twice - though you have it backwards, mine is a '76. I am assuming that last would be thickest - safety regs etc. etc. - anyone know?

Look on the MotoLita web site, by cross-referencing part numbers, you can probably figure out which ones have the same splines.

I purchased the adapter hub from Crowder Customizing. The hub part number is for a post 74 MGB, but fits the Midget. They don't list one for the Midget, so I had them confirm with my spline count and shaft size. The difference being that there is no horn button in the adapter kit (since it's on the stalk). So, I guess I haven't answered your question regarding diameter... :smirk:

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply in my previous post that either hub would fit either column if you had the wrong one.

There are at least two sizes for the splines on Spridgets. My older '73 has a different spline than the '78 race car.

I *think* the change came when they switched to the Spitfire steering rack.

My '78 has the Spit-style rack. Older cars, like my '73 have a rack based on the Morris Minor design. All 1500 cars have the Spit rack and some later 1275 cars have these too.
