New Steering Rack Prices

I've been looking at new steering racks, and I'm seeing a wide spread on pricing from different vendors. Are these racks supplied by the same manufacturer?

Jim, I upgraded my rack on Bugsy my '68 by replacing the pinion gear. It provided much less play in the rack. For the older racks this was a pretty inexpensive fix. For the racks post '72 when they went to the Triumph style racks not sure if this was an option.

I can't answer your question, but I bought a new rack from Victoria British about 4 or 5 years ago and haven't had any problems with it. I guess the only "problem" was steering was a little stiff after installing it (had to manually correct the wheel after turning), but it loosened up soon thereafter.

I just ordered a rack from VB when I did my freight order.. I added up the pieces I needed to fix my rack and buying the new one was only a little more money. Hopefully it works out well.

VB's version is around $149 vs. Moss price of $179 as of this writing. If they're made by the same manufacturer then I know which one I'll be going with. I checked with one of the Moss discount sites and the price is close to $200. It's the same part number and description as Moss. Pays to shop around.

Did you ask Moss resellers who are members here?

Not yet, but I would like to see what their price difference is.

Can you fit that later style rack to a early car???

Kurt.

I think there's slightly different tracking and ratios between early and later racks.

Different TRE and steering arms too.

Just opened my boxes. The rack I got from VB was made in Argentina.. I will post up a picture too...

Well, I just salvaged my last good early rack from my parts stash. Looks like I will have to try to rebuild one in the future. They're very fussy as to what will give smooth steering.

Kurt.
