My TR3A Vin plate is almost unreadable. I have a new blank and some metal stamps but the size of the letters seems larger than 1/8. The numbers seem to match 1/8. Anyone else have an opinion on the original stamping?
In addition to the size, the font may be hard to duplicate - e.g. the modern stamps I have seen favor a curvy 3 whereas the original on my TR4 has a 3 with a flat top stroke. Can't say if the TR3s are like that as mine doesn't have a 3 in the commission number.
I have decided that I will use the 1/8 stamps that I have, they are close. Did any of you figure out how to hold them all so the stamp is straight? I looked at the web site above and can't justify $159 holder for one use.
I practiced on a piece of aluminum flashing. It also makes a difference what you put under the plate. I think I ended up using a scrap of hard maple to get just the right amount of impression. Practice first.
Here in Kansas(also know as Brownbackistan) this will get you an irate Highway patrol VIN inspector. This is as hard to cure as
HIV. Make it look JUST right then try to ad a little patina, make sure you check local laws/rituals/witch doctors......

Fretted over the same issue for my 4A. So ordered a stamping set off the internet- harbor freight. They seemed to match up with the originals.
Set arrived & with two margarita's(hey it's hot in texas in august) set about the job. They turned out perfect ! The next day
it looked like the plate came directly from the factory ! Letters & numbers were in the correct order ! Say no more.
Happy New Year Everyone
