New Springs Settleing?

Get some lowering blocks...they are available from most any circle track equipment dealer...they are available in 1/2" increments from 1" on up...
 
Hmmm. A lowering block for a coil spring? I'm familiar with lowering blocks for leaf springs but I don't know how you can have a lowering block for a coil spring. Can you explain?

For the front, look at the bottom spring plate that retains the spring and the shock. I remember spacing my 1st six down with spacers and longer bolts. Worked really well.
 
Well, I got a set of front springs from Richard Good.

His springs are 1" lower than stock height.

Measuring at the control arm from the frame to the ground I had 7" with the first set of springs which are the ones in the pics in my earlier posts.(definetly higher than stock)

With Richard's springs the measurement at the control arm dropped to about 4.5". But I still had a tire rub that I was fighting with in the very beginning.

So I swapped the 215 65 15's for a set of 205 60 15's and now I've got no rubbing at all, the car sits low, looks good and handles good. Now with the shorter tires my measurement at the Control Arm from the frame to the ground is down to 3.75". So the thing is down in the weeds so to speak.

I'm waiting for the matching tires to arrive for the rear. They will be 225 60 15. Once they are on I'll decide what to do about springs in the rear.

Am I misunderstanding this?
If the springs are 1" lower, how does the measurement from control arm to ground go from 7" down to 4.5" or is there a misprint on those dimensions?
 
Here is a shot of the TRF uprated stock height springs (lol) after install, the car handled badly as the front end pushed into corners because of the cars height and looked like a 4wd Triumph truck. These springs will not settle to an acceptable height and make the car handle like a stock late model MGB /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Below is a shot with the Goodparts springs, handles like it should and its stance looks right now with no tire rubbing.

This is kinda sad. I spoke to the guy that sold me these springs. He said there is nothing wrong with the springs. He sells thousands of thses springs every year, and has NEVER heard of this happening before.

That's kinda odd since so many people here have dealt with this exact problem. How could someone that sells these springs not have been thru this at some point, when obviuosly I'm not the first to run into this issue ?????

I believe the way this works out is that the Goodparts springs are 1" lower than true stock springs. The other 'new' springs he had appear to have been 1.5" higher than the true stock springs. So going from the other 'new' springs to the Goodparts springs lowered the car 2.5".

Bryan's nailed it.

There's no mistake in the typing, or measurements. The problem was that the first set of springs that I bought were supposed to be stock ride height,...but after installing them it was obvious they were a lot higher than stock. Thus the 7" measurement at the frame to the ground.

I posted pics earlier in this thread, but they look a lot like the pic Paul just posted.
 
This has been a very helpful discussion. I got my TR6 in the spring and I always thought it stood up too high. I went out and measured at the front suspension pickup on the frame and found 7.25" clearance. My tires are a little taller (205/70-15) but this is all making sense now. The car had a fair amount of work done at some point including new urethane bushings, etc. so I bet it has the "stock" replacement springs. Based on this discussion, it sounds like Goodparts springs and some new tires - which I need anyway - will drop the car about 3 inches. That should make it look less like a truck and give a more sporting stance.
