New speedo cable problems

Iv just put a new speedo cable on my 79 B after my old one broke, after a quick run it doesnt seem as good as the old one. The needle moves a lot more, it almost bounces sometimes. Could this be because it might not be inserted properly in the back of the speedometer? Or is it because it's a replacement part?
 
I've not heard of any problems with the ones from Moss - I'd check to see that its tightened properly on both ends...&, did you use an angle drive at the trans?
 
Well I was hoping it was decent as it had made in the UK stamped on it. What is an angle drive? I simply replaced what I took off.

Edit: Just seen on ebay what an angle drive is, is it worth the money as it will cost me ÂŁ30 (about $60), my car never had one on before and the cable does not have to bend in any extreme way.
 
No, not necessary on late cars - I was just trying to eliminate potential problems....tighten the cable to see if that solves things....if it doesn't, undo the cable from theback of the spedo, drive the car & watch to see if it spins properly..if it does, you've got speedo problems
 
I would suggest also making sure it is lubed properly. Pull the inner from the speedo end and slather it well with a good bearing grease or graphite grease. Another thing to check is that the sheath is routed/mounted so it can't "wobble about" as you drive.
