Well, I was going to buy this stuff anyway, so I went for broke and managed to get a complete set of Team CJ Billet Aluminium shocks (all 6) and rear springs (4) on an Ebay Auction! (Scroll down to see pics of these beauties! )

Its not a cheap as I'd have liked, but its like getting the shocks at their regular price, and getting the complete spring set for half price, so since I was planning to get this stuff anyway, I can't complain!

One step closer to getting my suspension back together!

Woo hooo!

now I know why I have MGs

Well, I could have spent a lot less on Spax, but these Team CJ shocks have a lifetime warrenty and are adjustible for both height and firmness, while the shock is still on the car! (Spax are adjustible for firmness, but not ride height and Konis must be removed from the car to adjust anything!

Besides, I only plan to do a full-off restoration ion my car once in my life, so I might as well do it the best O can the first time round

hey basil,
whats wrong with SPAX shocks? you could have had some cash leftover for a running restorable mgb!

Nothing wrong with Spax at all. For the money, they are probably the best choice IMHO, but you gotta admit, those solid alumnimum CJ units are works of art!

i cant blame you on that one. they are stunning.
"if you have to do it once, might as well go all out".
if money were no object, i'd get those solid titanium shocks i saw on a fighter jet at an air show last year. they were amazing. the pilot said they weighed about 2 1/4 lbs each. and stronger than steel. gotta love our military.

XJR:

My plane has ancient friction-shocks....look like something from a Model T....even British lever shocks look modern by comparison!

Hmmmm....wonder if I could fit F-16 shocks to the Aeronca?

Oh yeah, Bas; those billet shocks are "the bees knees"!

I almost put in a bid on those same shocks. They are wicked cool. Are your old rear shocks in OK condition or are they shot? I think mine are pretty soft and could use replacing but don't have in the budget for new ones right now. Want to make a deal?

I don't know if still have the original Girling shocks, I will have to look around. If I do still have them, when I took them off, they were in very good mechanical condition. They could use cleaning up and probably a coat of paint wouldn't hurt, but my car only had 36k miles on it and before I removed them, they were functionally perfect.

However, I know for a fact I have my original springs, which are perfect and powder coated. They can be seen in this picture:

If you're interested in the springs (which may be part of your "soft" problem), I will let them go for $100 for the lot.

IF I still have the shocks, I'll let them go for $75 for all six (I can't remember if I chucked them.

However, if I can't find mine, XKs Unlimited has SPAX on sale right now,
XKs Unlimited EType Parts on sale

BUT check British Car Parts North West first! I think their regular price on rear SPAX for the E may be even cheaper that XKs sale price.

If I can't find the shocks, would you be interested in the springs?

Cheers,
Basil

Very nice buy......they are the cats PJ's

Hi Bas
My rear calipers are starting to leak, so rear end work seams to be in the cards soon. I'll have to asses my situation and get back to you on the springs. Whats a good way to test them? Mine only has 63,000 mi. but then its 37 years old. Let me know about the shocks if they pop up.
