New Server Poll

Now that I have moved the BCF to a new, super-duper fast dual-core processor with a wiz-bang super fast hard drive in a new and better data center, I'm wondering how the performance seems to folks compared to the previous set up.

The main differences I remarked upon are that:

1. It doesn't hang (or hasn't so far).

2. One doesn't get redirected to a url link screen - the one with the girl with the backpack - if you log in before 8am.

Basil,
What do you think about the new setup?

For me it seems faster, but I wasn't having the lock up problems other have experienced.

Basil, The most problems I have is going from the TR forum to the Pub. When I click on Forum list most of the time it would take a LOOOOOng time to get to the list. I "have" had better luck with the new server.
It is interesting ,something I noticed. If I went to the forum list as soon as I got to the TR forum it seem to jump right to the list. But if I read a few post ,waitsville!

Basil, remind me please, by what reason was your old server hiking the rates by 30%??? (I trust the new rates are reasonable!!)

Supposedly they were upgrading their datacenter.

Basil, it is much faster for me.

However, I was having the "forums" page and a couple others lock up. The forums page seemed to be locking up when "btn_donate_LG.gif" tried to load.

It still locked up after the server change.

I have XP Pro and was running IE7 with all upgrades. I also am running Norton Internet Security 2008. I tried several different settings in both Norton and Microsoft to see if the problem could be resolved to no avail.

I changed to Firefox last evening and there is no more problem.

This is not a political statement.

My lips are sealed... :smirk:

With FF on Linux the load times are easily half of what they were on the old host's servers.

Same issue with me. The lock ups started after the Up grade to Norton 2008 back in March but it is not all the time.

The biggest speed change I've noticed is when clicking on the "Forum List". Sometimes that used to take forever to link up. Now, it's very fast.

Yes, sometimes the "forum list" would take a very long time to load. usually would be fine after it loaded the first time, but if I closed my browser and then came back, it would take forever again. Much better now, with no wait for the list to load.
