New rollcage build - looking for photos

All,

I am in the process of replacing the rollcage structure in my Bugeye race car, and am interested in seeing pictures of how some of you have designed your cages. Since there isn't a lot of structure in the rear of the car, I am most interested in what people have done with regard to rear bracing of the main hoop.

Also, while I have the rollcage removed, I will likely try to figure out a better mounting solution for the fuel cell. The typical way to do this seems to be cutting a hole in the trunk floor, and welding in an angle iron bracket to support the cell. This is the way my car is set up currently.

It is not bad as it is, but it requires that I remove the cell from above whenever maintenence is required. Given the limited space in the Bugeye, I would much prefer to be able to drop the cell out from the bottom. I have a few ideas in mind, but if any of you have photos of how you have approached this, I would be curious to see those pictures as well.

Thanks for all of your help.

Dave

You can still go the angle iron route and mount the cell underneath. You will have to weld captive nuts on the top side to receive the bolts that are inserted from below thru the holes in the top of the cell. A piece of flat stock that acts as a giant continuous washer under the lip of the cell would be a good idea as well.

Depends on if this is for SCCA, vintage, NASA, etc.

For a Frog, you'd probably have to cut through the sheet metal behind the driver with two holes and splay out to reinforcing plates on the trunk floor.

For lots of snaps of racing Bugeyes, (if you have the time) look through -THESE- pages.

In some vintage groups, you will see just a single side driver hoop. Some of the SCCA racers use a low front hoop (dashboard level). The VSCCA does not actually like cages (but they will often allow them anyway).

I have a four point bar with the two additional downers going thru the tub on my Frog. It seems alot stronger than the ones that do not go thru the tub.
