New parts???

I was peacefully driving down the street today when a women backed out in front of me. Claimed she couldn't see me! I could see her just fine but had no time to avoid her. So my right front fender is pretty much toast and I'm wondering if the new fenders are any good. Also, since this is for a 64 Sprite would the turn signal location be right. There was a change of the signal location sometime in the 60's and the usual suspects only offer one fender for cars from Mk2 Sprite thru 68.
Wondering as well if anyone would have a really good right front fender for a 64 Sprite that they would be willing to part with. I've got rusty ones.

Kurt.

..and Kurt, now you know why my car is "God awful" orange!! But she still wouldn't have seen it because her cellphone would still block her vision!
(I don't have any spare fenders either but up thru '69 they should all be the same)

Living in Texas 22 years ago I had a guy pull right out in front of me while it was raining and block off both lanes of traffic. I couldn't stop and T boned him. He claimed he couldn't see me because I was speeding.

I asked him If I was going faster than the speed of light...cause they were on *and*, how could he think I was speeding if he couldn't see me....and if he could see me speeding, why the hail did he pull out in front of a speeding car in the rain and stop...

Sorry to hear that bro. I'll see what I can dig up around here.

Well I blame most of the accident on the fact that she was overweight enough that it was difficult for her to turn her head!!

Bill, then 69 is when they changed the turn signal location?
That would make sense since thats when they made the bumper change. So does anyone have experience with new fenders?? Don't know how I will proceed on this but I want her insurance to pay for as much new as I can get out of them. I also need a headlight bucket and turn signal. Turn signal base is not available so will have to be straighened. Straighening the cowl and repaint will need to be resolved as well.

Kurt.

There are lots of people out there with spare fenders for our cars. hopefully one of them will speak up and you can replace it with OLD metal.

I have a pair from a 69 Midget (the yellow ones if anyone's keeping score out there) but they are pretty rusty, I don't think they are rusted through though.
Also shipping would likely be a pain.
I think you should get this one, I have had it on my watch list for a while now just hoping my lotto ticket would have the right numbers for a change:

Had a similar experience with herself's VW several years ago. New German fenders were NLA but we settled with the insurance for all new everything involved plus labor. With money in my pocket, I repaired the old. New sheet metal from Mexico, the only thing new available, was of significantly lesser quality.

Kurt, your fenders are for the fat bumper right? So the turn lights are closer to the headlights? I'll make sure that's what I have and also maybe make sure there's no rust through. I'd love these fenders to find a good home.

There's a young guy on another popular forum who recently purchased the front valance piece from the yellow set.
He bought a Midget he says because he kept seeing this little green frogface Midget heading up the hill every morning as he was heading down the hill to go to work.
Then I heard he was looking for some parts and I emailed him, he came and bought a couple things and told me the story.

It's really good to see young people getting into this hobby, and so much so that he's been sanding all the old bondo off his car and having the engine reworked and is prepping for paint and getting good sheet metal where his is too bad to repair. He got one of my hoods too - frightening to learn my old junk is better than the stuff that came with his car.

Adam - if you're lurking out there I've still got parts but I did get rid of the windshield frame from the MK1 Midget since you last visited.

Rick, that monza bonnet would look great on a BE and probably would improve fuel economy but I don't think I would like it on a square body. If your fender looks very good I would be interested but the car was rust free with original paint and I would like to get it back as close as possible. If new is of good quality I would just as soon get her insurance to pay for that. The car did need restoration and there is no sense in fixing just one fender so that will have to be worked out with the insurance. The check will go toward the restoration. Your mention of your hood being used for a restoration reminded me of a ratty rusty MGB that I sold years ago. The fellow that bought it was going to put the good parts from his car into my ratty B. He showed up to look at it driving his B. The fenders were rusted off at the bottom and flapping in the wind! He couldn't open his door because the car had folded in in the middle so that the doors were jammed!! What he got from me didn't improve his situation much.

Thanks Bill, been busy so haven't even got anything done with the insurance company's yet. I'll check that out.

I got my check from Hagerty and thought I should praise them on this forum! The accident was the other drivers fault but I turned it over to my insurance agent for Hagerty.
Payment was fast, I thought generous, and Hagerty was very good to deal with.
I took cash since the car was planned for a restoration anyway. $2300 for right fender, headlight, turn signal lens and, of course paint. I've sourced the headlight assembly and signal glass for under $50 and, if I have to, I have a rubber bumper fender that is perfect and can weld the turn signal mount from my rusty early fender into it.

Holy moly that monza bonnet gives me a bad case of the wants.

Why do you think I can't delete it from my wish list...?
