New paint -- results [polyurethane or enamel]?

Re: polyurethane or enamel?

I know very little about paints & painting. My painter whom I trust & who does excellent work, recently repaired a fender crunch. He used PPG - DCC Concepts, Acrylic Urethane base & clear coat. He said that the modern paint formulations now available to him, would not hold up very well against fading unless clearcoated. Especially in the red color on my car. He also perfectly matched the original 14 year old Imron paint & said that it would still match as things age.

fyi
red is the worst colour for fading and is the most expensive pigment to buy.
