I need a new MC, is a remanufactured OK or should I go with a new MC?
I am not skilled enough, I think, to rebuild on my own.
Thanks
Gary

If you can remove a master cylinder, you can rebuild it.

There's a spring clip that holds all the insides in, and other than that, all you'll need is a cylinder hone.. You can pick one up for $10 at the auto parts store.
Lubricate it with brake fluid and runt he hone at medium speed on your drill.

Getting the rubber seals back over the brake piston is the only tricky part.

But that's $10 for a tool, and $10 for the seal kit.

It's worth a try!!

All that being said, a reman is just as good as a new unit.

I've heard lots of people having trouble rebuilding their brake master cylinders. Parts don't always go back in as easy as they come out and some of the stuff in there is easy to mess up. I decided not to rebuild mine because if I were to damage it, I'd be afraid that the rebuilder would not take it as a good core. I just sent mine off to Apple Hydraulics and had them send me back a rebuilt unit. The price seemed fair and the turn around time was good as well. Just my .02.
