OK, got the "wings" off. Of course it envolved the usual spun square nuts, bolts that simply broke off, and others that had to be ground off. But, this is a frst for me. Went to take this bolt off and the whole corner of the body came off instead!! I'd be upset if it wasn't so funny...like, what did I get myself into?!?

Everything I touch results in a rain of rust on the floor...which I vacuum up. I started weighing the vacuum bag when I change it, and so far the car has lost 157 pounds. That's good, right? I mean, a lighter car goes faster, doesn't it??

John, you have a real challenge in front of you. Will be a beauty when it is completed! Great photo.

Looks slightly familiar. Here's a picture of my rear side closing panel after cuting it off -the cage nuts had been replaced by welding some 1/4" bolts to the rear apron, and the fender gap closed with a little extra bondo. -No way to install the beads after that.

157lbs. So how much do you plan to add back 3rearcageremains.jpgto it. I know I purchased several pounds of weld wire, but like filler, most of that gets ground off.

It is kinda funny having been there  Well, look on the bright side. You were going to have to replace the inner sills anyway...now it will be easier to get them out!

Cheers

Colin Chapman would be proud!

Reminds me of the cars I used to work on in high school when I lived in the northern parts of the country - except I don't see the remains of duck tape and bondo!

My first Tr3 had no such area at all!! The tattered remains of the wing were fiberglassed to the area under the tail lamp
and almost nothing held the bumperette on the car. Separate grounding wires had to be run to the rear of the car from the battery
as the body had rusted in half behind the doors.and the brake lamps made the head lamps glow.....
