Good day Mates,
I just signed on but have been a TR 4 owner for 30+ years. Having owned 10 TR 3s and 4-4As. After I retired from NASA (3 times) and living in FL now I decided I needed a project to keep me busy. At 73 years old! So while on detail in LA (back as a civil servant at NAS- Goddard Space Flight Center but working on JWST at NG in Redondo Beach CA- quite a commute! I managed to find a 1965 TR4 that had been sitting under a lean-to in the desert for the past 35 Years! Straight body very little rust- driver's left foot well but absolutely ugly. No plastic or rubber survived. I had it shipped back to FL and expect4d to take 2 years to complete a frame off restoration. Well do to CV-19 I have been FL locked in and nearly completed the restoration- just finishing the little body dings before getting it painted professionally back to BRG with Tan leather seats and interior.
Thank s to Moss Motors for having most everything I needed for the restoration. I did take the frame to a shop for sand blasting and then the body panels and tub for soda blasting. Well worth the coins spent and when it all came back clean and primered, it was like starting from scratch ground up. Everything was so clean!! Made me think about a V8-289 as we did back in the 70's but I kept it original.
I can't wait to get her back on the road. Maybe by August. Already rebuilt the motor and my son and I stripped the car of every nut bolt electrical harness and 50 pounds of CA desert sand! I have loads of original parts I pulled off the car if anybody needs something for a driver. I live on Merritt island near Kennedy Space Center (my backyard) and have seen 2 other 2TR4s in the area.
I have loads of pix from purchase in CA really ugly to every event of the restoration if anyone would like to see them or ask a question please fell free to contact me.
