Hello All,

I am a new member and have already been enjoying the site. I'm in the process of restoring a 67 OTS XKE serial 1E14999 (One Short). I have it on the jig now replacing all the sheet metal below door level. As I have detected two other 67's being restored by other members including our host I expect to be an active member. In addition I am about to begin reassembly of the IRS. As a note I had my rear brake caliper cylinders stainless steel sleeved by John Farrell Auto Parts in Lebanon, NY. I was pleased with the quality of work and price. They also provide a number of reproduced parts for XKE's. They have a web site at jfarrellauto.com. another site that has been of great benefit to me is classicjaguar.com. They have pictorials of restorations from start to finish as well as sources of technical assistance. Thanks and looking forward to chatting.

Welcome, I found this sight by accident last year. Completed a full mechanical, electrical and hydraulic rebuild on my 1971 OTS last winter. This forum was very helpful. Many knowledgeable members. A wealth of information.

Thanks for the welcome guys. R67cat you have entirely too many toys. I think you should invite us all over to your garage to play!!!

Welcome One Short! Indeed, your humble host is restoring a 67 OTS 1E13333, which I have owned for more than 21 years! I recently had my brake calipers plated in electroless Nickle and plan on replacing the cyliders/pistings with new Hye-dra-cyl units - they sell solid Stainless Steel cylinders and pistons for the Jag (You can even but oversized, which I think I may do).

Very glad to have you aboard! Looks like you too have one of the cooler chassis numbers!

Cheers,
Basil

One Short,

Glad to have another E-Type restorer using this site.

I am rebuilding 67 E-Type front brakes and will start on the rear soon. I want to replace any other normal wear parts while I have the IRS out. What do you suggest that I order ahead of time and plan on replacing as 'routine' maintenance? I have already replaced the shocks.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the welcome. So far I have media blasted the cage and Fulctum arms along with smaller parts and epoxy primed and painted the lot. As I said above I had the caliper cylinders stainless sleeved and had John Farrell nickel plate them while he had them. I also bought a set of his stainless pistons. Mine were shot as well as the cylinders and I did not want to have to do it again in this lifetime. I had the remainder of the calipers and parking brake mechanism nickel plated as well. My only casualty so far is the little sheet metal covers that go on the parking brake levers that cover the adjustment mechanism. I hope I can find replacements. I believe XJ6's are the same. The plater left them in his acid bath by mistake and made foil out of them. I replaced all the universal joints which are still available from your local auto parts store in two qualities. I am replacing the pinion seal as well as the output shaft seals on the differential. The pinion seal was no problem. The output shaft seals require disassembly using a special 1 7/8" socket and removal of the tapered roller bearings which I decided to replace while I had it apart. The bearings are separated by a "collapsable spacer" which I have ordered but the manual does not cover this setup. It only explains the early types using shims. I'm trying to get the information now from "the guy" at Classic Jaguar. I am going to replace the seals and some or all of the inner fulcrum needle bearings. The seals I am ordering from SNG Barratt but I found the needle bearings cheaper from a local bearing distributor. I had one inner race or "bearing tube" that I also got from Barratt. My car sat so long the springs were rusted badly and I will probably replace. I have not gotten into the outer hubs yet but seals for sure and probably bearings. It doesn't make since not too while you're in there. I'm not sure about the outer fulcrum stuff yet either. Unexplored territory. I'll try and let you kmow about the output shaft bearing setup as soon as I figure it out. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

One Shot,
Thanks for the useful information. Keep us posted on your progress. Be sure to make as many mistakes as you can so you can alert the rest of us about what to avoid. Just joking...a little.
