Andy, that's just being foolish.

You know that particular engine was designed for the station wagon and you clearly have a sedan. Your stock replace is a V-10 not a V-12.

And Don, you really don't have that hiding in your garage do you???

naw, was posted on the TR7 site today so I stole it.

You're right, of course. But I did find most of a Herald Estate project on eBay UK, so if I could just get that over here to the States....

:iagree:

Looks to me like the turbos would be hanging out both fenders.

Other than that......:jester:

Don't think you have to worry about it throwing off the weight balance. My guess is that everything in that picture weighs around 425 pounds. Rover complete engine with inlet and exhaust manifolds is less than 325 pounds. Add a couple of turbos and some aluminum piping. Where's that get ya? According to desk top dyno programs, you can see around 400 HP on a 4.0 liter with 12 PSI of boost.

Hi Todd - was referring to Andy's Merlin!

And while Paul is totally correct, it does bring up some interesting musings. I'd bet this 1947 advertisement that appeared in Popular Mechanics had many a motor head dreaming.

Wow, marked down from $14,500 to $300? That might explain how someone like Jim Lytle could have built "Quad Al", a Four-engine Allison Dragster! :driving:

What you really need is something with a little more grunt. try one of these. A Patton tank V12. If you have any questions about it give Jay Leno a call. he has some experience shoehorning these monsters into a car.

This is a <span style="font-weight: bold">British Car Forum</span>, if you're gonna stuff a big V-12 in your ride, at least use the Rolls-Royce Merlin... :driving:

Edit: While reading about the Merlin engine on Wikipedia, I ran into this neat fact about the <span style="font-weight: bold">"Ejector Exhaust"</span>...

"The Merlin consumed an enormous volume of air at full power (equivalent to the volume of a single-decker bus per minute), and with the exhaust gases exiting at 1,300 mph (2,100 km/h) it was realised that useful thrust could be gained simply by angling the gases backwards instead of venting sideways.

During tests, 70 pounds-force (310 N; 32 kgf) thrust at 300 miles per hour (480 km/h), or roughly 70 horsepower (52 kW) was obtained which increased the level maximum speed of the Spitfire by 10 mph (16 km/h) to 360 mph (580 km/h)."
