https://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/convertibles/1409_2016_mazda_mx5_miata_first_look/ I know many on the forum also have Miatas or have considered buying one, the new car looks awfully good to me, and over 200 pounds lighter, more of an honorary LBC than ever! I never was very fond of the third generation Miata's looks, looked like a Hot Wheels car to me. I don't usually buy new cars, but the new Miata looks tempting, I thought the same about the BRZ and FR-S, but when the rumored 2400 pound weight blossomed to 2700 pounds or more became less interested.

I posted about this new Miata about a week or two ago. Really nice looking. I'm tempted as well. A friend of mind has a new Scion FR-S and loves it too, but I've ridden in it and find it a bit too harsh a ride.

I think the 2016 looks a little bit like a Hot Wheels car. I'm still a fan of the original.

Makes one wonder.....

I always assume when I see a Miata or BMW Zwhatever the driver couldn't find a good TR4 and was forced to settle for second best.

Right off, I don't like the head lights! Gives that angry comic book Oriental Ninja warrior look ! Not my cup of tea! I wouldn't buy one! JMHO. PJ

But, to each his own. :rolleyes2:

I'm not into the 2016. It's missing all the cuteness. A Miata trying to be that serious is sad.

It seems with each succeeding generation, the Miata drifts farther and farther away from the original concept, which was essentially an updated LBC: Simple and fun.

Thank god for that
As I get older the extras are a nicety

I'm with Don on this. If I were to buy a 2016 Miata it would be for fun, sure, but I would also be something for the wife and I for trips and as daily driver for her. Having a fun car doesn't have to mean having a car that doesn't have a certain level of comfort, new technology, amenities and reliability.

Look at the 2016 Miata and look at the new Jag! Hmmm. :ziplip: :black_eyed: PJ

The current "NC" chassis has plenty of niceties over the NA's and NB's and still manages to look like a Miata. The new one has that amorphous modern car thing and a mud pout vacant stare. Shame on them. Same for that Jag. :popworm:

I think it looks like a Bug Eye with an attitude

If I want old school,I'll drive the TR

I would agree, but we're among the fortunate few who have the luxury of having an LBC at their disposal. The original Miata gave you a pretty fair facsimile of the LBC experience, but combined with Japanese fit, finish and reliability that made them ideal daily drivers, too. They sold like hotcakes.

Perhaps with the changing market tastes, Mazda is trying to take aim at the BMW Z4 crowd?
