New Memebr needs good glass source

I bought a VB windshield for my '79 Midget and put in it the frame 6 times trying to get it to seal correctly. Bottom corners and lower sides didn't seat properly and I though it was something I did, i.e, didn't center it properly. Well, long story short. I finally pulled it apart again and messured it and it was too small in all dimentions.

I called VB and they said it was within spec of 47" from corner to corer (theirs actually measured 47 3/8) and my old aftermarket glass is 47 5/8". They took it back and I ordered from Moss and am awaiting that one. Moss says it's supposed to be 47 1/4 so I'm "better off" w/ that glass but still concerned it'll be too small.

I found a supplier of Triplex glass for $285 PLUS $100 shipping. Dimentions they gave are correct (48.1" and 12.1) but now I'm nervious about breaking a $400 windshield not to mention worried about taking a rock on the interstate.

Is there anywhere else I can get a decent glass at a decent price?

After 6 times I've gotten pretty good at changing windshield glass out and can do one in about 30 minutes, but that's on a "small" glass and I don't know if my technique will work on correct size glass and don't want to take a $400 chance to finde out. Thanks.

This isn't going to be much help. I hate doing glass. I used to own a body shop. I had a couple guys in my shop convince me they could install a windsheild in a car so we could make a delivery deadline. The glass company was just next door to my shop but their tech was out sick. After 3 broken windsheilds they got it in and the clip on trim installed. If I had the glass shop do this install and they broke the glass, they would just go back to the shop and get another one. No Charge!

I don't do windows!

2-3 years ago I bought one on E-bay and it fit fine, but I'll have to look at the markings to see the manufacturer.

I sell lotys of VB & Moss windshields & have never heard of a problem from any of my customers.

I wish I had taken pictures. It was pretty bad. You could stuff the seal back behind the glass while it was fully installed in the frame. Corners were rounded off too mauch also.

I'm sure it was just a "happy" Tawianese grinder.

Got the Moss glass today, better than the other but not perfect or "correct". One corner doesn't seat all the way but I'm willing to live with it. This one went in REALLY fast.

I'm beginning to wonder about your frame!

Goes together just like the other one I have here. This windshield is weird in that it has the relief cut into it just like the rubber does. I don't see why both are needed, especially if a Triplex glass is more than 1/2" wider.

I could push the bottom of the stantions in more, but the screw holes won't line up then.

Tony, you should have seen the other glass, it was just BAD !!!!!

p.s That pumpkin avatar is really creepin' me out !!!!!

zimmy - I've not had problems with either....however, Moss' new Triplex is real nice just more expensive than VB.

I didn't see a Triplex option for glass on Moss's site. How much for Triplex Tony?

Zimmy, from what little I've seen and dealt with, I'd go Moss and get it through Tony. Triplex if you can afford the $$$. It has the correct dimentions listed instead of the smaller aftermarket units........,however; it may be easier to install a "smaller" glass w/ less chance of breakage. I can't say for sure.

I couldn't remember why I didn't already buy a glass along with the $1200 worth of stuff I ordered 3 years ago. It wasn't until I searched ebay and someone there has a new Savevue glass with ALL of the weatherstripping for $149 plus $23 shipping that I remebered why. It was too late at that point as the Moss glass was already installed.

I would have given that a shot, but I've heard bad things about them for the "A"s and I don't know if they would be as helpful or returnable as Moss or Tony if there was a problem.

p.s If had know I could have gotten it through Tony, I would have done that. It's always better to support a memeber. It's just that [censored] pumpkin kept creepin' me out and I always stared at that and never looked at the banner in his sig.

I'm not sure if they've elarged the Triplex offering to Midgets yet...I know they have them for B's...I need to place an order tomorrow & am gonna learn everything I can about their windshields.
