Hi everyone! I am new to British cars and I am looking to learn as much as I can over the next several years. I have just taken possession of a 1963 Austin Healey 3000. My father has had this car since Oct 1964 and he has recently, and regrettably, passed away. The last time the car has been registered was the early 80's. The last time it saw the road was even earlier. My goal is to have the car restored to a new or like new condition.

Welcome, ECMPV22, from another newbie. I think you're in the right place... And may your father's legacy give you much pleasure.
Thanks to all for the condolences. I will get over to the Healey forum and make an introduction. Funny story... I just got back from the MI Secretary of State (DMV) today for the second time in two days on trying to transfer the title to my name. It turns out that the registered VIN in the state of MI has been incorrect since the early 70's. They left the "L" out for LHD and the last number was morphed from a 1 into a 7. At least the insurance had it right.

That's what's called a "survivor".....all you need to do is clean it, make it mechanically reliable without changing anything from original.

Oh well I've seen a lot worse...in fact, my brothers was a lot worse when we started on it! It's a very nice driver now.
My sympathies on the passing of your father. The legacy of the BJ7 can be a great rememberance. Others on the Healey list have picked up where there fathers left off.....and now have wonderful cars to enjoy and remind them of their dads.

Nice pics! That's what I call patina... I have similar shots of my car over at www.a40farina.co.uk, along with the ongoing story of her stripdown and rebuild. The photo album is called "Annie" and the story, in the general chat area, is "Annie's Song... errr Blog!" (yes, that's exactly how I wrote it).
Hard and soft tops, you lucky man! I know they're not exactly thick on the ground. I hope it provides years of fun.
Your Dad probably hoarded a bunch of old tools to go with the car, rescue as many of those as you can. You never know what you might need. Modern cars are all metric, but I'd bet there won't be one metric bolt on the entire Healey!

You have some work ahead of you, but everyone here wishes they could spend some time working on the car and adding their wisdom. you have a great project ahead of you.

That's what I call a "Michigan Car". I grew up in Michigan. It seems like I spent my youth patching rusted out floors and lower edges...
Nothing impossible about that car though.

My dad left me a legacy of a love for cars but unfortunately no actual cars. You're very fortunate - imho - to have the car you have. You may find other similar cars that can be purchased for less than what it will take to bring back your car but remember that NO other car is your Dad's car. So like the VISA ad says:
"Four new tires - $600, paint and body work - $20,000, driving down the road in your Dad's restored Austin Healey - PRICELESS!!"
Keep this in mind during those rough spots and keep us posted with LOTS of pictures!! :laugh:
