Hi all,

After years of having my Triumphs sit in my garage and storage due to the usual reasons (new son, new job, etc), I'm hoping to get at least one of them back on the road over the next few years and just ran across this site in looking for online forums for British cars. My first car was a 1966 TR4A IRS which I got my senior year in high school (1979). Having never worked on cars before, I learned quite a bit in a short amount of time!

After the rear of the car started to sag due to frame rot (always fun when you have to exit the car through the window as the doors are keeping the rear of the car together!), I did a ground up restoration after finding another solid frame and inner body shell. Drove the car for 5 years as my only car and put 75,000 miles on it before one of the front suspension mounts started to break free. During this time my wife's car was a 1968 Spitfire Mk III which she drove until the floorboards disintegrated on her. She was not happy the night the passenger side floor disappeared while going through a puddle and drenched her. <grin>

Along the way I also managed to pick up a 1967 TR4A IRS cheap and a 1961 TR3A from a friend's older brother. Both were cars that had been sitting a long time but which were complete and in decent shape for restoration. I'd always wanted a TR3 and even though I knew it would be years before I would get to it, I figured buy it while I could at an affordable price. It also had some sentimental value as the person that I bought it from was one of the reasons I was originally interested in Triumphs when I was growing up.

I found the TR4A sitting in a field where it had been for 10 years. After towing it home, I actually managed to get the engine started and other than burning some oil it sounded pretty good. My grand plan was to make it my driver after restoring it with a Surrey top and knock-off Minilites and keep my original TR4A as the standard convertible with wire wheels.

Sorry for the long message, but just getting excited about my cars again and about finding this forum! Oh and as if the above are not projects enough, I also managed to pick up a 1972 Triumph Tiger motorcycle. <grin>

Hi, Scott, and welcome to the Forum! A couple of my Healeys sat in a garage for a few years until I could work on them, too. Lots of luck!
