I've been browsing the forum for several days now and Basil encouraged me to introduce myself.
We live in Richmond, Va and own a 1956 MGA 1500 Roadster (soon to once again be Glacier Blue).
The car was one of the first MGA's imported into the USA. The original owner, a young female, was fatally injured in an accident while driving the car shortly after she purchased it.
A local insurance agent purchased the wrecked MGA which only had 1,200 miles on it and did all the necessary repairs. In 1957, my father-in-law traded a couple of old Model T Fords and some cash for the like-new sports car. For the next 4 years, this MGA was the family car, even as the family grew to four!
As most MG's bowed to the elements, this car was no exception. Finally, the poor old MG was carefully wrapped in clear plastic and allowed to sit, only to condensate to ruin beyond use. At one point, an offer of $40.00 was almost accepted to sell the decrepid MG, but my wife (then ten years old) pleaded with her father to keep the car..and so he did.
It is now 40 years later and after almost two years of restoration, we are expecting to have the car back from the paint & body shop in about 3 weeks.
We are both very excited and anticipate many wonderful years with the MGA.
