Hello all,

I've been crazy for british cars since I was a small boy -- my neighbor had a TR3A he'd bought in 1960 and drove daily for the rest of his life. He taught me to drive it when I got my license in 2006. Everyone loved that car.

In any event, I'm finally in the market for my first British car, and I'd like to start off with a modest model that will be plenty of fun and a good way to learn.

I'm considering a Healey Sprite; I've found one that's mechanically solid and been well cared-for, but I can't put the right date on it: It has Sprite Mk III or MKIV bodywork, and the 1275cc Mk IV engine, but the owner thinks it's a 1961, which must be the wrong year. The VIN is HAN64724

So my question is actually two questions: does a Sprite seem like a good car to get my feet wet, and can anyone decode that VIN number for me?

Thanks again & glad to be here,

Dan

Hi Dan, Welcome to the asylum!

Sorry I can help with your Sprite questions. My first British car was a TR3, and after over 35 years (and several TRs) I still prefer a TR3/A. It's rude, and it's crude, and it's still the most fun you can have with your clothes on!

But no doubt you'll get more answers (and opposing opinions) if you ask over in the AH forum:

Hi, Dan and welcome to the party!

Looks like you've already posted over on the Spridget side. Spridgets are a great intro to LBC's, and you'll no doubt get lots of experience wrenchin' on it.

Post pictures - we all like to drool on our keyboards.

Welcome to the Forum. A Sprite is a great starting point (even finishing point)! you can't go wrong there.

I can't answer your question but I would like to welcome you to the forum! I think you are beginning a love affair with an LBC (Litte British Car). Congratulations and :savewave:
