Hello everyone,

I am a new member, and recent purchaser of a 1953 Austin A-40 Somerset. The car needs quite a bit of cosmetic work, but is in driveable condition. This is my second Austin, the first having been a '69 America that I owned in the late 80's, and drove from San Diego to San Francisco and back once without trouble. As you can see, I am a fan of what many may consider the more stodgy britcars; I enjoy a leisurely spin up and down the coast.

My admiration for British steel was acquired somewhat through the back door as I have been a tech at a Swedish car place for 25 years or so. S. U. carbs, Smiths gauges, and Lucas electrics have been my stepping stones across the North Sea.

I appreciate having the opportunity to communicate with fellow enthusiasts and look forward to future posts.

Welcome to the party!

We're all a bunch of British car nuts, stodgy and otherwise.

Oh, and we love pictures, so post away!

Welcome, Bob....I think we have a member in Canada who has a similar car....check in the "Other British Cars Forum".

:savewave:Hi Bob, and welcome to the Forum!

Welcome!
If you have photos of the A-40 and the America,
please post them.
Would like to see them.
Enjoy the site!!

Welcome Bob!

You'll fit right in! My first car was an A40 (in 1967!)

Presently, I own an Austin A35 (along with other stuff).
I've owned several Americas including a yellow '69 (unfortunately, an automatic).

Here's the old A40 I owned so many years ago.

And here's my A35 (it's blue now and is being transformed into a vintage saloon racer)

Hello all,

I am a bit new to the functions of the site, and have only figured out how to post images with in the gallery forum so far. In any case, I have posted two pics of my A-40 in the "Other British Cars Gallery."

Enjoy!
