This is my first posting on the British Car Forum even though I’ve been a British car enthusiast for many, many years. I read the book, The Red Car, in fifth grade and have been in love with MG’s ever since, and that was a long time ago. I owned 2 MGB’s in College, 1966 and 1971 roadsters, and through my adult life I’ve owned several MGB’s, 2 TR 6’s and my current restoration project, a 1954 MG TF 1250. I’m retired and currently live in Saint Charles, MO, which is a suburb of Saint Louis and have been a member of the MG Club of Saint Louis and the MG Experience forum for over 15 years.
So why am I interested in the British Car Forum. My TF, No. 5301, is kind of special, it’s a birch gray RHD export model. As such it’s more like a British car than a U.S. import. For example, its speedometer is KPH vs. the U.S. market’s MPH. There’s not a lot of differences, just enough to make it interesting. So far, the only history of my TF I’ve been able to document is that it was not originally imported into Australia.
My research indicates that of the 9,600 TF’s produced only 1,014 were Export models and of those 813 were shipped to Australia. So my car is one of the 20% shipped to one of the other 5 RHD markets, New Zealand, Rhodesia, Kenya, Malaya, or Japan. Birch Gray was also the lowest production color with only 1,207 made. I’m hope by branching out I can find additional history of my TF.
