I recently got the "bug" again after 23 years. This is the sixth Triumph I have owned over the years. My last Triumph was a TR6 that I sold in 1984 to buy a house. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but I have always missed it. I just bought a 1977 Spitfire from a bodyshop that did about a $3000 paint and bodywork job and did not know how to put the car back together properly. The car is in mint condition body and drivetrain wise, but it is a nut, bolt and wiring horror show. I was told that the car was T-boned on the passenger side in 1978 with 12K miles and sat inside a warehouse for 30 years until it was recently finally repaired. There is not a speck of rust on the car, but I have already spent about 40 hours going through boxes of parts, replacing what I know goes where. It has actually been a joy so far, I love the car but I think I am going to need some help with the wiring. I bought a color coded wiring diagram on Ebay and hopefully that will assist me. Mechanically, all I found bad was one broken rear shock, alternator not charging and leaky master cylinder. The engine sounds great, transmission and clutch feel good and tight. It has factory overdrive but I haven't been able to drive it fast enough to engage it due to the broken rear shock.
Living in New England, it is such a pleasure to work on a car that all the nuts and bolts aren't rusted and actually come off without rounding off from corrosion.
I've been reading through the threads on this forum and it looks terrific. Glad to have found it.
