I have owned a 60 Austin Healey BN7 for over 24 yrs. Was restored in 1998 and has had upgrades, etc. through the years. Recently bought a set of LEDs from "classic auto leds.com". The recommended flasher was a Tridon EL-13. My BN7 has - Positive Ground. The LEDs are functioning with parking lights and full head lights. But will not function as a turn signal. I am in need of a flasher that will work with positive ground and with all 4 LEDs connected on the car. Can anyone offer some help? mj168-2.jpg

Mert - welcome to BCF. Great looking car you have - and lucky to have owned it for so long..

Flashers can be a headache, especially as LEDs often don't pull enough current to activate the traditional flasher units.

Why not post your question over on the Healey forum here. You'll hear directly from AH owners.

Welcome and do post your question on the Healey forum as Tom suggested. Good looking healey and kudos for your 24 years of ownership.

The EL-13 can work, but you will need to add more load to it. A pair of 10 ohm, 10 watt resistors (from Radio Shack or any electronics supply store) should do I think. Connect each resistor from the turn circuit on one side to ground.

To work without the added load, you will need a true LED flasher, which will have it's own connection to ground (probably meaning an extra wire to the flasher). Offhand, I don't know of anyone that makes them in a positive ground configuration.

PS, in poking about on the 'net, I found a comment that some EL-13 clones may not work positive ground. But a genuine Tridon should work, provided it has enough load. In spite of the name, it is not a true electronic flasher and has no active components inside; just a relay with some resistors and a (non-polar) capacitor. Here's a photo of one person's arrangement (from another forum)

If you're set on using the old type flasher, you could replace the LED flasher lights with the old incandescent type bulbs. Or even just put small incandescents into the circuit as the additional load.

Hi There Mert,

"Welcome" to "THEE" best LBC'S site anywhere.

Real nice looking Healey you have there.

We're darn near neighbors. Whenever you come to the "Up-State" part of SC, give me a shout & we'll go cruise all the great "Twisty's" here.

Regards, Russ

PS: Hey Tom, are you dug out yet?

You might want to contact a guy called Scarabchris who sells a lot of LED lights for marine use. He may have an idea.
Or a company Imtra Marine Lighting they sell LED

Welcome to the Forum, a little belated!
