Hello Everyone,
I joined the forum because I have recently bought a 1980 Triumph Spitfire. This is my first British car and it has been years (read decades) since I have done any work on cars. In my youth, I was a gearhead (last car owned/worked on 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T, 440, bored 0.030 over, 4:11s, etc), so it was nice to open the bonnet and see an engine with no computer!
I have admired and wanted a little sports car convertible for my wife and I to tool around in VT in the summer. This should fit that bill nicely as it was within my budget and the time was right to buy. We are at a point in life with kids either graduated college or 1/2 way thru college.
I did manage to drive the vehicle home, about 20 miles but it was not a ride for the feintheated! Got it started with some starting fluid, had to keep the idle up to keep from stalling and there was a lack of power, so it was simultaneous clutch, accelerator pedal, handbake, shift & steer!!
I have posted the carb issue I am having and thank everyone for their input and when I get the repairs done, that should resolve the idle, start and power issues!
Barry
