Hi all. I have never owned a British car. My first real car was a 1992 black and tan MX5 Miata. I loved that car; put 100k miles on it over a decade. I've also owned a '60 Willys M38A1,'76 BMW 530i, '94 Audi Cab. My current ride is a 2009 BMW 328i Convertible (e93). It checks a lot of boxes.

I am looking to get an MGB, Midget, BES, or something similar. I can turn a wrench but I am no mechanic. I will outsource any required upholstery or body work. It will be a weekend driver and I won't rely on it for transportation. I am thinking less tinkering, more driving. I am still fact finding, so I am open to any make/model/year/budget suggestions.

It seems like a great, active board here. I look forward to participating, instead of just lurking.

welcome! sounds like a great plan.

1. join a club for advice and also because you often get better prices

2. figure out what you want - Midget is a hoot but it is small and good for trips under 50 miles - B's are comfortable a lot longer

3. If you mostly want to drive get the best one you can find (British cars are like buses there is always another one coming)

3b. That said, if you can turn a wrench you can work on these cars.

Thanks basil, et al. I am still researching. A good friend of mine has a single owner mgb that may become available. It sounds like a really nice car. I’m still researching.

I was hoping to kiss a few frogs before I get serious. Test driving one if these when the temp is 30 deg f and snow in the ground gets tricky. There is no showroom with salesman who gets paid to do this; I’m not ready to buy so I know I would be wasting someone’s times. There was a lotus that sold on bat last week. I love the idea but I think an mgb makes for a better introduction to this hobby.
