New Member from Texas w/ an Austin Healey 100-4

Hello everyone. I am a new member from the Houston area in Texas. I currently own a 1955 Austin Healey 100-4 BN1. I am at the early stages of restoring the car. I have pulled the engine and am about fninshed rebuilding it.

A little history about my car. The car has been in my family since 1964, when my dad purchased it from the original owners. The car was original sold in Paris, and then brough to the states. It is on Old English White car with red interior. When my father purchased the car when he was 17, his first car, it was in pretty bad shape. He and his father restored it to driving condition using whatever parts they could find. My father drove the car every day until 1971 when it was parked with a stuck valve. It has been siting ever since.

Supposedly the story goes that the only reason that my mom went out with my dad for the first time was to ride in his car. So in a way I guess the Healey is the reason I am sitting here typing this message.

I have no memories of the car ever running. For my entire life memories of the car consist of it sitting in our garage with junk all over it. It was always something my dad and were going to do together when he had a little more time and a little more money. Those two items never happened with him as he passed away when I was 19. On my 30th birhtday my lovely wife gave me some money to get started on the restoration of the car.

The past 3 years I have not gotten much done to the car. This year I am determined to get it running. If anyone has any words of encouragement or advice it would be greatly appreciated. I have never restored a car before so I dont know much about what I am doing. I do belong to the local club here. However the majority of the members do not work on their cars themselves.

I look forward to being an active member in the forum.

Hi There Wade & Happy 2008:

How can it "NOT" be a Happy New Year when one owns a Healey such as you do! Lots of History, Fond Memories & the excitement of bringing those memories back to life! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Wade; There are many definitions to a "Restoration": "From Driver Condition to Trailer Queen": All of which take some Time; Tons of "Patience" & a few $$$: Its whatever you want it to be for your personal pleasure. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

There are lots of folks here on the "BCF" that would be more than gracious to give you a helping hand in your endeavors. Remember; There are no "Stupid" questions here! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

Introduce yourself to the "Healey Boys & Girls" on this forum & let the questions, comments just flow: /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grouphug.gif

Oh; Also, Don`t forget to post some pics here as we all love to see an "LBC" (Little British Car) come to life.

Great to have you. Welcome from NE PA.

Re: New Member from Texas w/ an Austin Healey 100-

Russ,

I am looking to do a driver restoration. I dont have tons of money and I know I am going to drive the car. At this point I would be happy just to get it running. If I dont have the money to do the paint and interior at least then I can drive it while I am saving up the money for the rest.

I will put up some pics as soon as I find the CD I have them stored on. I never loaded them on the new computer.
