While trying answer a Triumph TR6 question, it occured to me to seek out a forum, so here I am.
I'm old school, 58; live in Northern VA; and I have a 75 TR6 and a 69 MGB, both drivers.
My question is whether there is a spin-on oil filter available for purchase at Autozone or Advance Auto for my TR6. I've been using a Unipart GFE 443. Thank you.

Welcome aboard! Since this is a TR specific question, I'm going to move it to teh Triumph forum (where it will get more visibility among TR owners! But feel free to make another "into" post in the "New Members" forum to tell us a bit about yourself and your car(s).

The basic "default" is the FRAM 3600; others will chime in on better filters, but you can cross-reference from the Fram....

The spin on filter will work only with the spin on adapter, available through most parts suppliers. Otherwise, the cannister set up is the only option.

Rich, I think mrv8g is correct, FRAM 3600 but personally I prefer the canister. By the way, I think I know you.
 
Welcome to the forum. It's nice to have another new owner in the group.

It sounds as if you are well covered with a TR6 and an MGB, you have the best of both worlds. Now that you know where we are, don't be a stranger and post a few pictures of your TR6 when you can.

Catlett is really not in the mountains of VA, but if you start driving from Washington DC toward the mountains (Skyline Drive) Catlett is about half-way, I guess. It's between Manassas and Warrenton.
Aaron, I remember you had a French Blue TR6, I believe.
I've owned my TR6 for about 10 years, and it is a solid driver (knock on wood). The MGB was my first restoration project - definitely amateur, but it, too, is a solid driver. I'm driving the TR6 to the TRF Summer Party on Friday. Hope to see you-all there.

I am an ex-NoVa, retiring and relocating to the Dallas area in 2002.

I had NO INPUT for your question until I saw a response that included the Fram 3600. THEN I knew that I could help.

I just got a 1962 TR3B, with a Fram 3600 on it. I am not a Fram fan, particularly after seeing the results of various filter tests on the Internet. So, I went looking for the appropriate Purolator filter. :wall:

First, I went to O'Reilly's (or AutoZone, they are next-door to each other), and found that the Fram 3600 and 2825 ARE IDENTICAL FILTERS. Then, finally finding a conversion table on the Internet, I found the following:

Fram PH3600 translates to L20252 in the Purolator
Fram PH2825 translates to L24457 in the Purolator

So, I am now off to PepBoys to see which Purolator they stock of the two. Maybe they stock BOTH. :crazyeyes:

Good luck. I am still a little apprehensive, as there are TWO conversion kits, the Purolator and the Tecalmite. (I thought that Tecalmite was a border town in New Mexico with a great red-light district! :devilgrin: Go figure.)
 
Rich, you have an amazing memory. I sold that TR6 (still miss it) NINE years ago! Of course the TR4A more than makes up for it (at least that's what I tell myself).

Wish I could go to the TRF party too but a young daughter keeps me at home... The only TRF party I attended was in 1999. Good times. Have fun!

FRAM 3600 or cross-reference works fine for a standard spin-on adaptor as the other guys have said.

Pictures of your car - we need pictures! Did I mention we like pictures?

Isn't the 3600 a full size filter. I like the shorter ones.

I bet I have driven thru your town. Use to hike the Shenandoah trail every Easter break during the early 70's.
 
I like to use the NAPA Gold 1561. Great group of people here at the forum, but they never asked to see any pictures of my TR6. Must be because I only seem to talk about my TR3. Anyway welcome to the group, lots of good information here.

I'm not a fram fan either. Although I don't have the part number in front of me. I use a Pure1 from Puralator (SP?) They get a better review online and they claim to filter at a higher percentage then Fram.
As for the long versus short filter. I use the long. My theory is the larger the filter the more filtering material and the more filtering.
If you don't have the spin on adapter yet. When you mount it, position it so the filter is at an angle to clear the clutch cylinder. The filter will still be hanging down, just not perpendicular.
