I have been a Brit bike mechanic and restorer for most of my life and now I'm thinking about a car.

But I know nothing about the cars. I would be looking for a Triumph or MG, a runner that needs cosmetic work and paint.

My idea of a British car comes from the sixty's and seventy's, I now see that they were made to and into the '80s.(?)

So the question is, what cars and years should I be looking at? Are some years better, or better to avoid.

And the last one, what is the parts availability like.

Thanks
Rich

Welcome, Rich!

As for which car to look for, that would be subjective. You're going to hear lots of praise for each, depending on loyalties. A good way to get a feel for what you might want would be to find a local British car club and get a close look at each marque. I'm sure you'd be welcome to ride and maybe even drive a few.

As for the better years, it depends on what you're looking for and at. For collectibility, the earlier the better ~generally~ speaking. Lots of folks consider the '67 model to be the "Holy Grail" of MGB's.

Again, speaking generally, the '80s marked the downfall of the classic British car industry.

Parts? You can get pretty much anything you need from several suppliers. Contact Moss Motors and Victoria British and request catalogs. Both are online - mossmotors.com and victoriabritish.com - you can view the catalogs as well as order them. One note about that: Moss online catalogs are different from the hard copies; Victoria British online catalogs are duplicates of the "real" ones.

Good luck with your search, and let us know if we can help.

Oh, Google "MGB Buyer's Guide", "TR4 Buyer's Guide", etc. Lots of good stuff online as well. But by all means, look for the club and take rides!

Probably like bikes, how much do you want to spend? And is there a style you like?
