New Jensen Healey Owner

I've acquired a "new" Jensen Healey. First registered Dec., 1972 so its a pretty early one. As far as I can tell it has only 29K miles on it, the bodywork seems in really good condition, though the engine seeps oil from every pore and burns it too- 3 liters in 200 miles! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

But its a lot of fun so far. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

And the electrics have already started playing up.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It looks broken: like something hit it- lies over on its side pointing backwards, hiding under the carbs.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Its insured for fire damage.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yep JW, sounds like its broken to me too!. Real Bugger enit?.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Nice...Don't see to many of those around!

Who's idea was it to put those seats in?

If it's that early does the cam cover say LOTUS on it?!? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

They're going to go, that'll be my first big improvement. I've sort of found a set of used seats in unknown condition to go and look at later this week and have already priced a pair of leather trimmed ones (/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) so something more suitable may soon appear....

It stinks of gas/petrol so I'm tracking down a fuel leak of some kind. And I've got a Halogen headlight conversion kit for the 3000 that might get "tested"....

[/ QUOTE ]Very common. It's probably hard to find a JH with a trunk, er, boot that doesn't smell at least a little like gas. The fuel tank and pump are the usual suspects.

Remove the back wall of the boot (if it's still there) and inspect the pump and fuel lines.

Also inspect the fuel tank and the pad it sits on. It's common for the seal around the outside of the fuel filler to leak and allow water to dribble down to the tank and pad. The pad soaks with water and stays wet so the floor or tank or both rust out.

Thanks.

I filled it up and then went zooming around a few corners.

No big, or even small puddles. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But one of the hoses to the fuel pump seemed much too damp, so its a candidate for replacement... seems too simple but I've got my fingers crossed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Now all I have to do is use most of tankful to get the level down. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And then I'll figure out what's wrong with the fuel gauge/sender/wiring.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

So how do I pull the instrument panel from the dash? One corner is pretty free but I hesitate to give it a big pull....

James: I have a factory manual... I can look up various proceedures.

I'll PM ya.

Those two items had better go to the top of the list James. And be fixed real soon. You'll be into the dark days before you know it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

It looks good tho ! Only Healey in the carpark last night. All the big Healey drivers were afraid of the rain ! (including me)

Ah but James is a tough Texan,a little bit of rain and cold is nothing to him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
