New Jag owner, What's it worth?

Real close to closing the deal on a 71 E type V12 2+2. Original California car, a/c, manual trans, wire wheels everything seems to be there along with rusty bottom. Body is straight, interior rough.
I've always admires the body line of the E type and happened on this one by pure luck. Had to take a different route home one night from work and saw the grille in the dark. Came back the next day and I was right a Jaguar in the country.lol
So I stopped by to take a good look and it was for sale, but then is it worth the asking price and how much am I going to have to put into it to get it back on the road?
Appreciate the input as well as a few places to look for parts.

Welcome to the BCF! As one who used to own that very model EType (and currently own a 67 Series 1 Roadster), I can tell you that you will need deep pockets to restore any E-Type, but that is especially true for the V-12. Since the EType has a monocoque body (vice a frame) you will want to pay close attention to the condition of the body since it is what gives the car its structural integrity. Floor pans that are gone are not too big a problem and can be readily replaced, but other areas, such as sills and the rear area up under where the rear suspension sits can get more $$ to fix. I would look especially at the undercarriage behind the floor panels and up under the rear suspension/differential area - if that looks bad, I'd run! Also, what condition is the V-12 motor in? The E-Type V-12 is a great engine, but easy to pour a ton of money into (which is why I finally parted with mine).

Hi There gtrosema,

(1st): "Welcome" to "THEE" best LBC (Little British Car) Forum anywhere.

(2nd): Where is "Bradley, SC"? I just Mapquested it. Your about 1-1/2hrs south of me.

(3rd): You ask "Is it worth the asking price"? What is the asking the price?

(4th): As Basil mentions; Your going to have "VERY DEEP POCKETS" to restore an E-Type. I`ve owned "4" of them (Rdstrs).

(5th): You really need to post some pics in the "Jag Forum" section to get any sort of realistic figures on values cause a great percentage depends on the cond. of the body.

(6): The "2+2 Coupes" are the "Least" desirable of the E-Types. Ex: If a "Roadster" is selling for $50K, a "Std Coupe" may be selling for $40K & a "2+2 Coupe" would be in the $30K range presuming ea. one was in the same condition.

Have Fun Shopping.
