Hey all. - thought I’d post here, as I’ve been idle here for several years. I initially joined intending to find a 70’s MG or Triumph to restore. Unfortunately life got in the way, and I’m just now getting back to the hunt for a car. My biggest question is how does one determine what a “fair” price is for these cars? Prices and conditions seem to be all over the place...
 
Watch the local craigslist, look up prices thru Haggerty, compare to ebay and hemmings. Watch and see everyone for sale so you get an idea of condition to price. Don't be in a hurry, sometimes takes me 6 months or longer to track and find a decent one. By the way welcome back. Watch the Triumph and MG forums here and you'll have a lot of help.
 
welcome! LarryK is right - take your time, these things really are like buses, there is always another coming. Probably also worth considering what you really want. You can't restore one for less than it costs to buy - so if you just want to drive, get a driver. Obviously if you want to restore get the best project you can afford. (It is worth pricing things at Moss Motors for perspective)

I would strongly suggest you go through a club. You will have access to advice and resources and, for the most part club owners are more realistic as to the value of their cars and sometimes just want them to go to a good home. Here are some of the clubs in your part of the world
