Just saying hey, im sure I will be asking many questions as I am about to start my first restoration on a GT 6.

Actually, my first question is what manual is the best to buy that will guide me through everything. Basically a repair manual, one that has torque specs and torque patterns for the block, ect. ect. I want to build this car properly.

Thanks for all your help.

Jeff,

Welcome to the BCF! Good to see another GT6 person here. I would recommend that you get more than one "manual" for your restoration, too much info usually isn't a problem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif Here's my list:

1. Official Triumph Shop Manual - Robert Bentley sells reprints. Of course the original is very nice, larger print and in a 3-ring binder, but they can be expensive to acquire.
2. Haynes GT6/Vitesse manual. Pretty good reference, but not quite as acurate as the Bentley.
3. Spitfire/GT6/Vitesse/Herald Guide to Purchase and Restoration Manual by Lindsay Porter. Lots of good photos.

There are a few more reference-type books, but these are the best manuals.
Enjoy your GT6!

awesome info... I will start the search for these.

so, I have one more question, i lied... where would be the best place to find a doner car, i dont have a title for my car , therefor I need to find a very cheap gt6 to donate any usable parts and its title. I know it hurts to have to do that to a car, but it is the only way /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Jeff, welcome to the best Brit Car forum going.
Well, what year GT6 is it, and where in the world are you located? It makes it easier for me to answer your questions if I can find out these things! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I've got a '67 MkI, and here in Michigan, I just had the police run the numbers on it, filled out some paperwork, and applied for a new title. No problems, and I think there are many states like that. So, give us a little more info to work with, and I'm sure we'll come up with some ideas.
Jeff

Jeff, sorry I can't help with any information on where to get a donor car in your area, but perhaps there is someone else here from Philly that can help.
Have you inquired as to what is involved in getting a new title for your car? I was going to switch body tags on a Sprite a few years ago when a cop friend of mine told me it was a five year felony here in Michigan! Needless to say, that's when I found out the proper procedure for getting a title.
There are a few of us GT6 types here, so hopefully someone else will have some suggestions for you.
Jeff

Jeff, welcome to the fold. I'm about 9 months into a GT6 restoration and have found this website indispensible, with lots of friendly advice.

I know of 3 rusty, wrecked GT6s down here in a junkyard, perfect for "donor" cars. If you're interested I'll be glad to connect you with the owner. I'm about 100 miles south of D.C.

Good luck in your restoration!

i guess my question is, how much does the seller want, how bad are the cars, are there any usable parts on the cars.

thanks for the info

Jeff , I would recomend that you just buy a deicent GT6 and start driving. I know of a good ,mostly restored car with OD for less than 3000$$ You will never be able to build one for that......
