Just got this months copy of Octane magazine. There is a tiny article with a small picture that says:

NEW Healey?

Professor Krish Bhaskar who led the failed Triple A bid for MG Rover has bounced back to unveil his plans for a so called spiritual successor to the Big Healey, code named Project Tempest. It is claimed that it could be capable of 155 mph and cost as little as Pounds 25,000

I think,$50,000 US is a bit much with no provenance behind it Derek.---Keoke
 
That has been on this forum quite a few time already. I guess maybe this is a new possible builder though.

I just wish people would quit screwing around with faux Healey's as nothing new will be equal to the old. If someone wants something new and fast buy a BMW or whatever and leave the original cars out of it.

i dont know what or whom professor 'krash basket 'realy has in mind but i dont think heck get much of a following amongst the traditional healey loving crowd,keokes right 25000 brt.pounds=$44,2625,shipping,prep,taxes etc,well into $50,000. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif
 
Here is what I think. Der Mini-Cooper is not a Mini-Cooper. It is a fine new car that stole a name and a few good cosmetic things from the original design. Not every car that is produced can become something that people 40 or 50 years down the road will want to rebuild and cherish. A new "big Healey" will never be any of the things that the original was ( includes the good, the bad, and the ugly). It is too late for that stuff. Technology has changed, safety laws have changed, our thirst for bells and whistles has been molded by marketers who have convinced us our gages should be digital and that a DVD player in the car is normal (what ever happened to counting license plates, or reading). I've always believed that just because you can doesn't mean you should. I'll bet the new "Healey" won't smell like oil and leather. Sorry folks, I'd better stop now, this isn't the proper place for a rant...

But they still left the stupid exhaust hanging down where it can get scraped off on any little obstacle. It appears that the exhaust was an afterthought from the very first car. My only real complaint about the cars.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif I've got to agree 100% that Healeys can't be recreated - they ended - unlike say Aston Martins which have an unbroken Heritage - even if they are Fords!.

I think its good that Healeys have this distinct beginning and end to their production life ..and that they do not have lots of fibre glass imitations running around. Can you imagine what it must be like to own a real Cobra (100,000 pounds) and be surrounded by millions of replicas so that evryone assumes yours is a fake too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif
 
Excellent point about the Cobras. Has anyone ever asked if your Healey was a replica? I saw the new Cobra recently, and it's a fascinating car, but clearly not intended to be the original. The BMW z roadsters are nice new cars, and there are others that will come and serve the needs of those who want roadsters that fit today's technology and comfort desires, but they will never be Healeys. Even if someone brings back the Marque, which in my opinion would cheapen it no matter how fine a car it was, it will never be a Healey. And there's no reason why I would want it to be a Healey. No one can change the fact that the Healey line came to an end, and as beautiful or ugly a beast as it was has now become fixed forever in automotive history.

There are more AH "kit cars" around than you would suspect. Here is one of several manufacturers. The kits have been around since the 60's. Completed cars usually end up selling for about 1/3 of the cost of the real thing. At least there are not "millions"

Have you ever seen the Wiesmann? See attached photo. It certainly has some familiar lines... Top Gear (British car show) did a great test - you can see it if you search video.google.com for "Top Gear" and look for the name Wiesmann in the list of shows, it is well worth watching.

Not a Healey, but a lovely car for sure!

most the guys i know with healeys have other nice cars, ya with bells and wistles and dont realy use thier britsh cars for primary transport,my self included,god bless those that do!it doesnt take much but a handfull a bucks to buy someting thats brand new even if its a repro of somthin else,for me owning a healey is what i term a 'romantic challenge'it insulates me from all the new brushed aluminum ,flashy chrome,plastic that tries to hard to look like wood,home theaters in the back seat,entrance and exit lights that stay on well up to the time your tucket safely into bed,exterior cams for reversing,etc, etc,like i said anyone with a few bucks can just walk into a dealership and buy it,but to keep a healey running [lots of em getting into thier 50's] takes individuals that invite challange,o.k so im a romantic sadist,ya it takes alot of balls-samic vinigar!!!!!!!down with fiberglass!!!![truth be known i almost bought the vette.]humm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif
 
Now, now, now Anthony, be careful here. My fibreglass still looks good after 20 years. And have you read the latest reports of comparisons with the new v-10 Viper. For all that spit and shine and comfort gizmos the new Vette still beat the Viper in all statistics for half the price. oh buy the way, the vette is still the original, no fakes or replicas. Its still in production since it's original design concept in 1953. Still what Chevy intended it to be, designed by a world class german engineer. Still America's sports car. And doing a darn good job of it. Considering. I'll get off my horse now. Sorry.

Are you speaking of Zora-Arkus Duntov? I thought he was Russian originally. And I also thought that he didn't become associated with it until the later '50s, while the first Corvette was Harley Earle's baby....

But I could be wrong....

vette,please dont take my wrong here,the new vettes kill many cars that cost three times as much!ive allways wanted one,specially 63 split,but supply and demand dictate you can buy a brandy spankin new one for less,i just dig the older ones a bit more!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif-ZO6 anyone?
