Hi,

I would like to introduce myself to the forums. My name is Mike Smith and I hope I can contribute something useful to the very high level of conversation around here. I enjoy all British cars, but my special interest is in the 6-cylinder Triumph TRs. I own a self-restored 1968 TR250.

I think I'll just pipe down and listen now!

Welcome, Mike. This is a great place to hang out.
I don't have a six cylinder 'TR', unless you count a GT6.
Some folks only consider TR5's, 250's and 6's to be six cylinder 'TR's.

Welcome to the forum. I enjoyed your sites & prose (esp 'Fair Weather Friends'. Used to get over to the Dayton BCD each year when I was a Midwesterner. Look forward to reading your contributions here.

Thanks for the welcome. Last time I looked, six is still six. I had a '73 GT6 Mk III project for a while, but I had to give it up when I lost my storage space. It really just needed some work on the floors (AND a motor rebuild, AND a gearbox rebuild, AND...)but the car was really all there and had a nice body and interior overall. I was pretty deep into my TR250 project, though, and I was kidding myself if I thought I could do two at one time.

I'd really like to have a 2000 sedan. Six means six there, too.

Thanks for your welcome and the kind words. I'm glad you've experienced British Car Days in Dayton, Ohio. It is my Happy Place every year. There is a really nice bike trail that eventually runs through that beautiful park. We cycle through there once or twice a year and I can squint my eyes and almost see the Brit cars lined up in the shade under the trees.

I still miss my TR-250. It was the first TR I owned.

Don't feel the need to pipe down --- this site is for people to talk until they're blue in the face (or british racing green in the face, as the case might be.)

The 250 is a neat car and overlooked I feel. How did you find a restoreable one in the middle of rust heaven??? Lived in Ohio once, our mailbox rusted out!!!! in one year!!

I didn't say that it was restorable. I was inexperienced enough and dumb enough to restore it anyway! Acid dipped, new floors and sills, frame repair, and all the SAE Fine Grade 5 and Grade 8 bolts in SW Ohio. The car was an abandoned project that I picked up with a lot of new parts, as well as two parts cars. I did almost everything myself except for body and paint. Doing the mechanical work myself was the only way I could afford it!

This was going to be a little beater-car that I was going to have on the road in 4 or 5 months. Close -it was finished in 5 years. I don't regret a single minute or dollar of it, but it sure illustrates what happens when you fall into The Pit of Obsession.

I'll take a crack at restoring your mailbox if you still have it, but it will take me 5 years to get it done.

The secret to rust prevention in Ohio (especially here in the snow belt) is to keep the darlin's off the road between Thanksgiving (or when they first salt the road) and St. Patricks Day. That and generous amounts of Waxoyl.

Ah, the REAL problem is that some folks don't consider anything but the "TRs" to be Triumphs! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif This long has been a source of great frustration to those of us who own, say, Heralds, Spitfires, GT6s, Mayflowers, Triumph 10 sedans and wagons...and Sports 6 convertibles! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
