Hey guys I guess a little introduction is in order. My name is Zack and I'm an addict, it all started when I was 15 and bought my first car, a 1975 MG Midget. Later came a 1967 Triumph GT6 that I never got finished before I sold it to a gentleman in Canada who got her all together and looking gorgeous...

Now I'm 26 and just picked up a 1970 Triumph GT6+ from a guy names Scott Ported in NC, it was listed on triumphspitfire.com. I have been wanting a GT6+ for the longest time and when I saw this one I pounced on it after seeing 1 picture and speaking with Scott on the phone.

I'm a well skilled driveway mechanic so it should be a fun ride. It should be here sometime around next weekend and I cant wait to give it a thurough inspection, detailing, and test drive. Also if there is anyone in the Boston area that is more of an expert and wouldn't mind lending some experienced eyes, it would always be appriciated.

You have one of the last of the round tails - my favorite body style for the Spit/GT6. Looks like a keeper!

It looks like there several new parts - alt & fuel pump - also I don't recognize the distributor - the vacuum advance part anyway. The wires running to the coil (elec ign?) would be better brought down onto the harness IMO. Looks like a car that someone has put some money and effort into -enjoy!...
 
Thanks Guys! I was hoping for constructive criticism so I could make sure I get things "right", so please keep it coming. The distributor is different I believe, this was the meat & potatos of the ad:

"4-speed, SS exhaust, wood steering wheel, new starter, new battery, new water pump, new fuel pump, rebuilt ZS 150 carbs (Apple Hyd.), 8-spoke alloy wheels, new Lucas sport coil, Newtronic electronic ignition, new rotoflex couplings, new leaf spring, new front shocks"

I have seen a lot of series 3 GT6s on ebay but these 69&70's were always my favorite. Are there an good or active GT6 specific forums out there by any chance?

It looks a tad oxidized in the newer pics but I'll take care of that in quick fashion, detailing is another hobby of mine, so she'll be shining again as soon as I get it!

Zack, I think you'll find that this is the best forum around for all things British. I've got a '67 GT6 myself. If you need pictures of fuel line routing or whatever, maybe I can dig something up.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to see another great looking GT6 in New England.

Check out my website for some of the activities of the various clubs up here and I better be seeing that GT6 at the annual "Day of Triumph" on July 29th at the Larz Anderson Museum in Brookline, MA.

Zack, nice car and the distributor is the right one, it's a Delco, which was standard on the GT6's of that year.

Hope it gives you years of pleasure.

hi zach, im located in rhode islad with a tr6 and i am familiar with the gt6's and wouldnt mind helping if you need a hand. as far as forums go, https://members.boardhost.com/GT6-Spitfire/
that is a great one, some guys on there race gt6's and know all about modifying them and such. i started off with a gt6 project car which never got finished but i still had fun with it.

Zack, looks like a very nice example. From the photos, it's one of the nicest I've seen in some time.

The GT6 is fun to drive and restore, as you'll soon discover. It's also an inevitable crowd pleaser and chick magnet as well! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

Keep in mind that we are most probably not the final owners of these cars: we're just preserving them for future owners. Your MKII/GT6+ is a rare and beautiful automobile and there are relatively few nice examples. For this and other reasons, please try to keep the car in something near it's original condition. Endeavor to make mods that are original, or easily reversible. Believe me, you'll never regret doing this.

Take lots of photos of your work, retain your receipts, and enjoy the journey of your restoration labors.

Hey Guys I think I can make it on the 29th and I know it would be beneficial to do so. Where could I get some more info? Do I need to register or is it informal? Also any really good "old school" British car shops around? The only guy I know of is Dean in Hingham but I really don't know how good he is.

I must commend you on buying a car in such good condition. You have already followed our best advice of buying the best one you can. Many of us cannot avoid buying fixer uppers.
 
Oh I've had plenty of fixer uppers, niether of my last 2 british cars were running when I bought them...

From what I've been told it is in pretty good condition with a lot of new things; interior, etc.. And that it runs and drives well.

I sent him an email the day after he posted it, he had many calls and inquiries on it. I told him I would wire him the money immediatly as it is exactly what I wanted, well minus overdrive and miata seats (I'll take care of that).

It seems the prices IMO have been climbing on ebay, decent ones are running $6500+. I picked this up for $4500 and shipping is only $500, I can't wait to get it this weekend!

P.S. Anyone know if a Laycock J-Type Overdrive unit would bolt right up? One supposedly for a TR6 or Volvo 1800??

Not a straight forward bolt-on job I am afraid, you need to change the gearbox output shaft and use the correct adapter plate for it to work, plus the inhibitor switch to prevent you from engaging overdrive in reverse.
