New Frogeye project - the road may be bumpy

Hi from Tasmania all.
With the Sprite Mk2a almost fully restored it was time to think about the next project (of course!).

I'm about to take possession of a rather butchered Frogeye but who could resist that (still) smiling face!

Originality is sadly lacking here:
Mitsubishi engine/gearbox/ancillaries/electrics (-ve earth)
Non-standard radiator
Rear of cockpit cut back close to roof anchors
Mostly non-standard gauges (and extra ones)
Battery platform cut back (to fit non-std engine)
Engine mounts changed to fit non-std engine
Flared guards on rear and on fibreglass bonnet - looks somewhat reversible
Trans tunnel heavily modified at gearstick area

Has some signs of rust repairs and who knows what lurks beneath!

Car is now yellow instead of blue and looks rather like this :D

Hoping to save this little Sprite and sort all of this out but might compromise a little such as 1275 A-series engine, front discs and ribbed 'box

Must be mad! At least it was cheap.

I'm coming to the UK/Europe for an extended period soon and will be in the hunt for parts!!!
Cheers

Congratulations on the new Frogeye! They're all worth saving, no matter what that saving winds up looking like.

And I totally understand how hard it is to resist that smiling face.

Would love to see pics of both the new Frogeye and the MkIIa.

sorry, doesn't work for me - and I have a dropbox account.

Dropbox changed their terms recently and I think you now have to pay to have access.

works now - gorgeous Mk2a and great start for a project!

We've seen a lot worse starting points for a Frogeye. You could almost leave it as is and just drive the wheels off it.

Your IIa is beautiful. Even though it shares a lot of commonality with the later Mark IV like the one I have, the Mark II seems much more uncluttered.

Thanks for comments.
You've sort of captured the conundrum Saxman. Where to start and how far to go. At this stage, because the 2a is so close to fully sorted and original I don't feel the need to go the whole way with the Frogeye, as nice as that would be. It might be enough just to sort out the cracking paint/filler and generaly clean up. And then there's the $ to consider (minor point)
Not sure. Ask me again tomorrow and I'll probably answer differently!
