TR2/3/3A new floors & removable transmission cover

I have read how once new floors are installed that the center removable transmission cover does not lay flat anymore. I want to ovoid this if possible. I was thinking that if I bolt the center tunnel piece on to the floor and fire wall when doing the outside welds on the floor to sill and the A and B posts perhaps the tunnel might fit better.
The last set of floors I had put in was done at the body shop, and the transmission tunnel did not very well afterwards. These guys were good professionals, so perhaps I am missing something here. It would not be the first time, so any tips are very helpful.

There are a lot of variables going on with the floor pan swap. I first bought some "made in america" pans that were hand beaten...and not at all by a craftsman. They were never going to fit correctly, and the lip for the tunnel cover was not even close.

The second batch I bought were stamped with the "British Heritage" stickers and were actually fairly close. I still had to modify some areas of the tunnel lip with heat and beating to match the tunnel properly.

The welding does warp the metal a bit...but with a hammer and dolly and care, that can be completely removed. So, I think it's really a matter of the amount of time you put into it. If you rush it, like a body shop that has to turn a profit will, then you will have a fit that works, but not perfect. If you take the time, your tunnel will fit perfectly. Tack first. Do not weld a bead or a lot of plugs until you are completely satisfied with the fit.

Agree with John. You might try fitting floors with trans cover in place, get it where you are happy with it and then start welding.
