Finally finished replacing the gasket a couple of days ago. Very happy with the result and surprised about how loud the old gasket made the engine compartment sound. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to take the car for a good ride yet since its been raing here. I did, however, discover that the rear of the valve cover is already leaking. Likely because of the cork gasket. I will try another cork gasket since I have one but will use something other than permatex.

Sure looks like the silicone gasket is the way to go. Not sure I'll make that purchase just yet since I have the spare cork one. Certainly something to keep in mind, thanks.

Fel-Pro makes a cork compound gasket that is about twice as thick as most of the cork gaskets from the three main TR parts houses...

I tried a fix on the leaking cork gasket this morning that seems to have worked. I loosened all nuts and simply re-tightned them going from back, where the leak was, to the front. I guy a work told me to try this. I really didn't think it would work but since it was a real simple try I went for it. After only 3 to 5 miles driven and back to garage for a check everything was dry :>) I'll try some more miles later with some rev's and see what happens.
