A good bit of my time as a kid was spent weeding mum & dad's garden. Not much fun, didn't particularly want to repeat the exercise as an adult. But recently have had a yen for fresh herbs in the cooking, so now have started some in pots. Basil and oregano in one, half-and-half. Prsley in a separate one.

Day three, the basil sprouted, hints of oregano:

This AM (day 4) oregano makes an appearance:

No sign of parsley yet, fingers crossed. Not exactly "Farmer Doc" but no weeding either. ;)

Janet has a "crop" of basil, parsely, rosemary and sage in our Jim Beam whiskey barrels outside. Getting some much-needed rain as I type...

It can be surprising what we did as kids because "we had to", that we can find fun as adults. I have a brother a few years younger that when it was his turn to inherit mowing the lawn as a kid would run the lawn tractor as fast as he could round it and if he left uncut strips didn't worry over them until dad would make home do it over. Now as an adult in his 50s, finds lawn care relaxing. Who would have thought...

A couple I know has been making bread which is really tasty. My fave is an Austrian version of a French baguette. I have been growing basil to go on the bread along with a buffalo mozzarella slice, roma tomato, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and prosciutto.

I cut the bread a little less than 1/2" then toasted one side in the broiler. Toasted side down, I dribbled a little of the oil on the still soft side. Vinegar goes on last on top of the prosciutto. So each bite tastes different as you work into it.:giggle:
