new Elise vs. original Elise

i know that performance-wise the new elise is far superior to the previous gen, but i really cant come to like its rather harsh styling. the older model had a much more fluent and bulbous shape to it, not to mention a much more low-slung stance. if i had a choice between the two, i would probably go with the older model... just one of those preferences.

what do you guys think?

I think I'd also take the older one as well. The previous generation has much more character to the styling.

Are we talking about the fifties coupe? If I was spending my own moolah, I'd get one of those. It's a pretty, very pure shape that I love. Plus, Jim Clark raced them, which is a good sign, I guess. Not that I'd turn down a new one, mind.

Okay, ignore that previous post, because I just realized that I was talking about the ELITE, not ELISE. I think I need to go buy a book about Lotus, now.

I thought I'd have liked the new one better until I saw one in person..

Your right the older version is nicer..

I have owned both a MK1 and MK2 Elise now.
The Mk1 was a 97R.
The MK2 a 01Y.
The Mk1 was tuned to 160bhp in 1999 with a gas flowed and ported head amongst other bits.
Having now done 5 track days in total (3 in the Mk1) and covered over 25000 miles on the road. I would have to say the MK2 is far superior to the original in both handling and performance. I also think the MK2 looks better and more aggressive than the original, which to me always looked 'cute and cheeky'. Both turn heads though!
Roll on MK3!
