New deck lid and luggage rack up-date

Almost home with this project. The new deck lid is on and it looks great. I just put a coat of wax on it to protect it before the rack goes on. the whole story is here including the attaching anchor options that I used in the deck lid.

Deck Lid & Luggage Rack Installation

I have to go back to NuChrome to have some missing screws polished and a different bar polished, as I don't like the way that one of the originals came out. The parts are in from British Parts.com and I'll be assembling by tomorrow evening.

As of tonight:

A&E Auto Body did a great job on the deck lid.

Perfect alignment all around and a perfect color match.

These are the Pop JackNuts that are covered on my web page about this project. There are other options, but these are solid to the metal lid and are watertight with the seals I used.

Now for the parts from NuChrome. Like Christmas with the toys to unwrap.

These slats look much better than my polishing attempts.

Nice job on the rear uprights.

Two missing screws for the slats one one for the rear cross bar.

Everything done at NuChrome.

Replacement screws to be polished.

One of my spare racks that will be getting cleaned out this summer.

Additional photos from above.

These are the parts from Atlanta Imported Auto parts, better known as British Parts.com in Decatur, Georgia.

Luckily these are still available, especially the plastic stand offs and the new chrome covers. Cheaper than having the old ones plated.

Paul-
Every thing looks GREAT! The deck lid and the chrome on the rack are perfect.
After I type this, I am going to your site to look at the fasteners that you used to attach the luggage rack as that will be my next project after getting my trans back into the car. I received my rack back from the chrome plater... unfortunately, I was not happy as there were areas of the rack that were missing chrome. I called and they told me to ship it back and they would redo it, so off it went for round two.

Paul: The 3rd cross member from the bottom has a little speck of bug poop on it. Probably a stink bug. You really should try to be more tidy!

Probably no where different than last year Peter. I can now put my folding chairs on the rack and have a lot more room in the trunk when I go to shows.

Maybe I'll even go to Stowe this year...

Re: New deck lid and luggage rack up-date

I've always NOT liked racks on LBC's...

but gotta admit that's about the nicest I've seen. Part of the aversion always came from the way most were attached: some burke with sheetmetal screws at the dealer just "adding" 'em. No consideration for water intrusion or rust prevention. Your work is impeccable, Paul.

Have ya made up a place on the stand to the hardtop for the "clean" lid?

Doc, that thought crossed my mind as I unloaded the top from Allan's truck yesterday. The headliner won't be in for about two weeks or more and he didn't want to take a chance that it might get damaged in his shop, so it's back home for a while.

I had to make an adjustment to the carrier which I will post tonight so that someone else doesn't make the same mistake that I did where the top rests. Fortunately an easily fixable for the rack, but not so easy for the two little marks on the top.

EDIT: This is the needed correction, if you followed MY pictures and added extra panels to Shawn's original design, which is fine without them, as long as the side rails are stable and secured well.

Hardtop Carrier, with Modifications to original pictures

Self inflicted pain is usually the worst kind. Nobody to get mad at for it but myself. Luckily we found it at the body shop and he said that it would be no big deal to fix it, but he was waiting until the headliner and all of the glass was back in. That way if any other "issues" crop up, he can address them all at once.
