What glue should I use to fasten the padded top crash pad to the scuttle?

Some say contact cement, but that seems wrong. Would be a real mess the next time a top is put on.

A local shop said silicone.

Someone else said "no glue," the fasteners and windshield hold it in place.

Any thoughts?

My original was glued on/down. Parts car I bought had had the pad replaced and it was glued down as well.

We have always used and had no problems with 3M Black super weather strip adh.
Its main claim to fame is that you can move it a little or take it back up completely before the finally setting-up. It loves most rubber and vinyl ,is fairly easy to clean up ....except for your hands.
