New dash complete, now electrial problems

OK, the new crash pad is in, reveneered dash is in, new Glass, dont ask, windscreen frame finished. put all the gauges back in. ooo the heater motor I rebuild over a year ago never blew air, I found out It was running backwards, how did that happen so I replace it with another one I rebuild made sure I check it before installing and it didi run. Now here is where I am at, fan blower does not work, temp gauge acts like a fuel gauge( should be easy to swap wires)so I assume fuel gauge is acting like the temp gauge, Ignition lite glows when Ignition is off, car starts but wont stop when Ing is switched off, no turn signals and no brake lights. I marked all the wires when I pulled them off the gauges, used the book to make sure I hooked them all back up, I must have pulled some wires loose some where. I hope I can figure it out, but it sure looks good if you have had any troubles like this, please chim in, now I am studying the electrical section of Bentley, I hope I dont have to order a new wiring harness and rewire the whole car, I might shoot myself

Yowza... that's a passel of gremlins you've got there.

I'm not a TR6 owner but I gave it a think anyway -- I cannot imagine that you have just a single thing wrong that could cause all that.

You're on the right track studying the Bentley... if it were me I would just methodically go thru every connection to confirm the right wire is on the right terminal and making solid clean contact.

Print a copy of the wiring diagram so you can check off each connection as you go.

My starting point would be the ignition switch as I saw a couple of clues there that it might not be connected quite right.

Hopefully you have the original harness with the correct colors and the correct wiring diagram for your year (they're available online if not).

As a last resort... when I install a new harness I connect one item at a time and confirm as I go that all is well. If you do this you have to be careful that loose hot wires do not contact a ground.

Hi,

For the heater there is black ground wire that comes out of the heater box. Make sure it's grounded. Let me know what fixed the ignition light on in the off position. Mine is doing the same thing. Has anyone ever seen an ignition switch with only 4 terminals. Mine broke and the TRF can't figure out what I have. There is no part number anywhere.

Hondo- Do you have a copy of Dan's colored schematic for your year

No dan Masters book but I will get one.
Geo you are definately right about checking one thing at a time

I think the problem with the blower motor is I must have pulled the hot wire off,

does any one know if reversing the 2 large amp gauge wires matters? would that make the IG light stay on with the key in the off position?

Reversing the wires will only cause the gage to read backwards.I am guessing that you were hoping that the original harness was OK, and did all the dash work using the old one.I think you will eventually rip out the old one and install a fresh,un-fried one.The tr6 never had enough fuses to protect the circuts.I highly recomend that one be added at the point where all the brown power wires come off the battery. Its like 10$ at most autoparts stores.

I added a new spade fuse block last year and separated a lot of circuits.
Now
most of the problems with things not working are fixed and attributed to the voltage stabilizer, no hot wire,
blower motor is working
brakes are working
turn signals working
switched the sensor wires on fuel and temp and now working
the Ignition light only glows when the Ignition is on

for some reason I still have an unswitched hot wire going to the coil and the engine keeps running when switched off but I had it fixed for one crank and off sequence but some how I got some wire crossed again, but most things are solved

steven, check your voltage stabilizer with a volt meter the green wire should only be hot when the Ignition is in the on position. I am pretty sure this was why the IG light was on all the time for me

You can print Dan Masters wire diagram from his site. It is easier to follow than the bentley diagram.

on the left side of the advance auto wire home page, in the black section select "stock schematics" I tried to copy it but couldn't.

Re: New dash complete, now electrical problems

From Adobe you can save the entire file to your computer.

Also from Adobe, there is a tool called Snapshot. Click on it, then while holding down the left mouse button, drag the box over the area you want to copy. When you release it, a copy of the area is saved. You may want to increase the size of the image until the printing is sharp and clear.

Open Paint or another application that will accept an image and paste it in.

This was done with XP and the latest Adobe Reader.

I need the www address to dan masters site I cannot find it and have searched quite a bit,

I have all the problems solved except for the engine will not shut off when the ignition is switched off, this is the strange part, when I turn the Ingition off and pull the fans switch to on the engine will shut off, bizzare huh

Are you sure the wiring on the ignition switch is correct. I had a similar ( would'nt shut off) issuse after replacing my ignition switch. Once wired correct no issues.

the wiring on the IG switch should be correct, I didnt touch it, It worked fine before I took all the gauges out. I am sure its minor just have to chase it down.

This will take you directly to the TR6 schematics.

As already mentioned, you'll need Adobe Reader (or Acrobat) installed to read the file. Or if you want, I can send you an individual schematic as a JPG file.
