New Daimler earlier than thought

In an earlier post I told you of the new Daimler I purchased recently. It is currently titled as a 1953 Sports Special. I have learned from folks in the know about Daimlers that my chassis number 53820 is a very early car (70th one made) and is most likely a 48 or 49. While they made 500 of these cars between 1948 and 1953, the chassis numbers for later cars begin with 56 or later 59. I suspect that at some point in its history, a new title was needed and, not knowing what year it really was, some well-meaning DMV person assumed it to be a 1953 due to the first two numbers of the chassis number being "53". I'm going to try to get a Heritage Certificate to pinpoint when the car was made, then get it re-titled as the correct year.

I do feel rather lucky to have stumbled onto this gem (pair of gems actually).

Basil, perhaps it will turn out to be 1951, the year I was born in Leicester, and possibly even more importantly, the year of the Festival of Britain, an exposition of British culture trade and industry.
That would be an interesting little piece of info.
Simon.

According to the folks at the Jaguar Daimler Heritage, it was manufactured in 1950. They don't however have detailed records so cannot provide me with a Heritage Certificate. I do know it was the 70th car made, which still makes be think the Bill of Sale I have is correct (it states 1949).

Basil, and to think I feel lucky just to wake up in the morning. Is sure is a representative of an era we associate with the English elite. Hard to look at and not see a guy with a top hat standing next to it. Wayne
Oh, and Christine said we will baby set the car anytime you want.

OK, Wayne,

Get to the back of the line.... There are already plenty of baby sitters lined up in front of you. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
