New Bugeye Seat Covers from AH Spares don't seem to fit properly

I'm installing the seat covers I purchased about 2 years ago from AH Spares.
I bought the seat cushions/squabs and covers as a set.
The bottom cushion seems two small relative to the seat cover.
Is this something that others have run into?

Fred,
I bought my seat covers and innards from AHSpares as well and mine fit much better out of the box. You can always go to a car upholstery supply shop and get additional foam strips to fill in the shallow areas.
Good luck, Rut

Thanks Rut, I'll look for some filler material. Did you have to put any foam strips in yours?

Fred,
Mine are the way they came from AHSpares, but I’ve had to add material to my TR4a seats to fill them out. I just spray a little adhesive on the foam to keep it in place and add batting to smooth it out. I’ve seen 1/4” thick foam used as well to keep seams from showing thru.

While we are on the subject of seat covers I would like to comment on color. I had a red Bugeye with black seat covers and on a hot day I had to cover the seats with towels because they got so hot the would burn my rear and thighs.
Now I have a White Bugeye with red seat covers and on a hot day the seats never get to hot to sit on.The color really makes a difference.

Like to mention that the replacement seat foams are no where near what was originally fitted. If it is still and option try to resurrect the original foams at any cost. I've used other old foams to cut strips from to glue onto worn areas. An electric carving knife shapes the foam quite well and good old contact cement seems to be holding well many years later.

It does seem like the seat foams may be the culprit in the poor fit. My old seats were from a 64 Sprite and while nice seats, they are different than Bugeye seats, as most here know. So I only used the metal portion of the seats, which are the same. New foams, squabs, and covers. The seat base foams look smaller and more contoured than I imagine the originals were. Perhaps the replacement seat covers are good fits to the original seat foams. Seems like they could reproduce the foams accurately without that much trouble...

I bought a quite inexpensive set of seat covers from the Bay of E's - finally took them to an upholstery shop - destroyed the economy but they look way better than I ever could have done. (and still 1/3 the cost of taking the bare seats to a shop)

OTOH impressive third row rear facing seats for the kids smaceng!

Fred, too late now but I have a BE plus the next generation and IMO the 64 seats are much more comfortable than the BE seats. I changed my BE seats to the later seats.

I agree Kurt. I'm keeping the foams from the newer seats and some day I may make up another set for comfort vs. originality. I'm installing them to be easily swapped. But I'm strange that way.
