new brake light switch

Just received this switch by UPS. It was shipped to me by accident so I called Moss to let them know what happened. Had a nice conversation and they said I could keep it and they would just re-ship to the other customer. So DB, yours is on the way.

I take this switch a proof positive example that Moss is working on upgrading the parts we all need. This new replacement part is much better than the ones we had been getting.

i have been thru at least two of those shiny brass things. Finally salvaged a good one from a parts car.

The brass one looks more like a reverse light switch than a brake light switch.

Not that it matters at this point but for the past two years I have been using the plastic Intermotor brake switches from BPNW on a couple of my cars. At about $3 each I keep a couple of spares around... just in case. So far, no failures.

After installing a relay I found the bad switches last longer.
Not running current through the switch helps, I still won't be surprised when it fails.

For my brake switch, I threaded a nylon bushing and put a machine screw in the middle. I put that where the brake switch goes. I connected a lead to the other end of the machine screw, and connected the lead to the ground terminal on the relay that drives my brake lights. Whenever the brake pedal is against the head of the machine screw, the relay switches the brake lights off. Works a treat!

Now that's a great idea! No moving parts to wear out!
Stainless machine screw, or brass, would also keep the corrosion at bay.

Thanks Rick. It feels good to have one of my crazy-donkeyed ideas appreciated!
